It's Slam time and not without drama or intrigue. Nadal is going for title 14 and has quite the tough draw. Federer is making his third appearance this year, entering the tournament with a negative W/L record for the year. And no 2 seed Medvedev has barely won a match on clay this year, but is apparently liking the RG surface this year.
On the women's side, the favorites are, and rightfully so in my opinion, Swiatek, Barty and Sabalenka who have all been playing well in the lead-up to this event. The drama has been dominated by Osaka for refusing to do press at tournament and Andreescu for playing very little and withdrawing very much. Names to look out for are Badosa and Gauff who have been looking good going into this event.

Soderling then lost in the final Cry

Beat the best player on clay ever and then lost to that smug bas*ard in the final

Federer lost all respect for me when he properly rubbed it in after beating Roddick in 09, fair enough he won but fecking hell he'd won like 50 big one's by then and there was no need for that carry on and smug look on his face after
Report SontaranStratagem June 11, 2021 11:41 PM BST

Report scandanavian_haven June 11, 2021 11:41 PM BST
when you're as good as he is you can be a bit smug
Report SontaranStratagem June 11, 2021 11:46 PM BST
I ain't saying that scand

I'm saying Roddick had been so close so many times and lost to him, with that one being the sickener for him, for which he never recovered from

He wanted that one so badly and came up short multiple times to the same man, fair play to Federer but he could have been less smug and showed some humility ffs
Report SontaranStratagem June 11, 2021 11:49 PM BST
Federer with the "I know how he feels" rubbish

Nah Fed you don't, you were the best player on the planet for about 7 years at that point, had won like 14 or 15 GS and had won Wimbledon for something like the 6th time... I think he was talking about the Australian final a few months previously where he lost a 5 setter classic to Nadal in the final. But sorry its not the same fecking thing that Roddick would have been feeling.

the French really cracked down on doping control that year - none of the Spaniards got past the quarters
Report n88uk June 12, 2021 9:48 AM BST
That's complete nonsense. French cracking down on doping control would have no effect, as it's easy to turn up for a big event doped out of your eyeballs and pass a test, hence why all year testing is the only way to catch dopers.
Report A_T June 12, 2021 10:30 AM BST
the sporting authorities have no interest in catching cheats - and COVID has provided an ideal cover for avoiding being tested. We've seen some insane times from women athletes in recent weeks - one 34 year old woman ran nearly as fast as Flo-Jo. The Olympics is going to be fun.

Britain's former world number one Andy Murray will play France's Benoit Paire in his first singles match for three months next week at Queen's.

Murray, 34, has been struggling with a groin injury and chose to miss the French Open.

If he beats Paire, the Scot could play Italian top seed Matteo Berrettini in the second round.

British number one Dan Evans, one of four other home players in the draw, faces Australia's Alexei Popyrin.

Cameron Norrie, who has been in fine form on the ATP Tour this year, meets Spain's Albert Ramos-Vinolas in his opening match.

The 25-year-old British number two has the chance to earn a measure of revenge against Ramos-Vinolas, who denied him a first tour-level title in the Estoril Open final last month.

Teenager Jack Draper plays Italian third seed Jannik Sinner, who is also 19 and ranked in the world's top 20, while Liam Broady faces France's Adrian Mannarino.
