Another week on the tennis tour and another one where all the action is taking place in Asia. This is the final chance for players around 10 stay in contention for Singapore, Sabalenka now has a shot all of a sudden after her win in Wuhan.

I find things too difficult to predict at this stage of the season, with motivation levels differing massively from player to player. I'll plump for a Sevastova v Bertens final, a bit of a wild guess really.
If that happens I hope they have sold the tickets in advance.
Just to add if you are backing a player who is better than her opponents and some are turning up half baked then that is great news. I fear for any of them if they honestly think they can flick a switch and turn the tables in a few months. If Sabalenka maintains her appetite/desire then the gulf will likely widen. Leaving aside their ability to turn up how many of the current top 10/20 are actually improving? Hopefully, next year the game will move forward and three of the Slams will not be won by solid, ball pushers.

KaPlis and Bertens both losing today. Sabalenka currently 10th in race, could do with a win today or she'll be ~600 pts behind. F here will make things very close, a W will catapult her to 6th.
I'm assuming Simona won't play, so that should open up another spot.

Two great back-to-back wins for Sabalenka. For differing reasons probably the best wins of her sequence.
She was pretty much beat today and still refused to give in. So often the player who levels the match doesn't take that momentum into the decider. Sabalenka had every excuse to play the tired card.
The big question now is what has she got left? She is a much better player than Wang - who seems to have made an amazing recovery in a short time - but it obviously isn't as simple as that. Hopefully, playing the crowd will add an extra bit of focus and energy.
The draw has been massively kind to Osaka and that is why she is now a relatively short priced favourite. She needs to mess up badly not to at least make the final.

Contrast her attitude to that of Sabalenka. One a credit to the game, the other a complete joke.

Great match from Wang. Top ten stuff and hopefully she will go on to win. I have backed Osaka but I can't support someone who gets up to that sort of nonsense on a tennis court.
Possibly one match too many for Sabalenka but she was up against a very good standard. Match probably lost when unable to push home the advantage in the first set. People talk about her serve but I think that is one area where she can get significant improvement. It is a weapon but it should be more of a weapon.

I know 24 hours in WTA is a long time but hard to believe the odds going forward.
Anything like a reproduction of her last two matches and Wang beats Wozniacki, probably in straight sets. Wang has played two high quality matches against more difficult opponents and seen them off in straight sets. Wozniacki has comfortably beaten two players who were effectively spent. A ball pusher provides a different sort of opposition but Wang should be favourite. I would be surprised if the market doesn't move in that direction as well. Assuming the 'injury' does not resurface the 5/1 outright looks very big as well.

It's because a lot more than last 24 hours goes into pricing up a tennis match. Wang has looked good, but it will be a totally different match vs Wozniacki from her last two where she will be expected to make all the play and find all the winners.
And Osaka has been a winning machine recently, which is the biggest factor going into the price vs Sevastova.

And I agree with you Wang has generally looked better, but the market is already heavily taking this into account. If this match was 2 weeks ago Wozniacki would be like 1.3x rather than 1.7x.

Disappointing again from Osaka. Seemingly devoid of any ideas to reverse a losing position. Very similar to when she was an overwhelming favourite to beat Pliskova. If you are a Slam winner then winning is about winning finals. She couldn't have landed on a better draw. A racehorse with her attributes would have a Timeform squiggle. She wasn't expected in the US Open. That win came pretty much out of nowhere. Since then the expectation level has increased and she has failed to deliver. All very well hammering opponents in early rounds but she has pretty much capitulated under pressure almost looking as if she couldn't care less. The poorest of tennis players can show some fight. She needs to decide whether she thinks sulking and crying her way around tennis courts is the future. The sympathy I felt for her in the US Open has gone. Sadly, she seems to have embraced far too many of the worst aspects of her idol.
A disnal repeat for Wang of the last semi-final when she ended up retiring. Seemingly no idea of how to cope with a solid ball pusher. The serve, unforced error count and self doubt terrible compared to yesterday. It doesn't augur well for trying to repeat outside of China. Very frustrating for Sabalenka who surely wouldn't have capitulated in that manner. As for Wozniacki a string of very ordinary results and then this?

Sock's fall in the rankings in coming weeks is going to be unbelievable, not sure we've ever seen someone fall like this that wasn't due to simply not playing because of injury. He's ranked 17 atm and 159 in the race. With this few weeks left in the season, that's unbelievable. With Paris and WTF points falling off at same time, he's probably going to drop over 100 places in 1 week alone!
