https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/tennis/2018/03/20/maria-sharapova-snaps-back-disappointed-fan-twitter/443657002/
A fan voiced his displeasure with Sharapova on Twitter after she withdrew from the Miami Open last week with a forearm injury. The fan said he had purchased tickets for a friend to see Sharapova play. Surprisingly, the tennis star snapped back. "I don't sign up for anything in my career unless I'm fully committed to it," she wrote. She went on to explain she felt numbness in her left arm 30 minutes before her first match at Indian Wells and then discovered there was an "air pocket" in her lung, which meant she couldn't fly. Sharapova lost her first match to Naomi Osaka 6-4, 6-4 on March 7 at Indian Wells. "So if the thought process is that I enjoy going through MRI, CT scans, injections, the five doctor specialists I have seen this past month ... I can honestly tell you that this time you're incorrect. "I am really sorry that you purchased 2 tickets for a friend who was looking forward to seeing me play live. But maybe this time, you can give me the benefit of the doubt and understand that I would trade all the above to compete in front of your friend." |

Dodin retires yesterday because she was getting thumped and gets in today as a lucky loser - bit pathetic really
By:
so it was only Kudla 102 and KBonda 103 after I crashed?
By:
Ha yes wisewords I would say so

By:
oceane dodin retired injured yesterday i believe ... but she's in the main draw i see ... so much for players not knowing before hand that they have received lucky loser or wild entry ... that there is making a mockery of the system ... wtf
By:
that cements my case of players knowing beforehand ...contrary to what the experts on this forum think ...
By:
yeah the player often knows beforehand that they are in a lucky loser position tof. not always, because they only get this position when a player withdraws from the tournament. sometimes they know, sometimes they don't. wildcard entry is a totally different thing altogether though.
By:
and I agree with you, Dodin probably knew she was in the lucky loser position yesterday. but she was having injury problems against Broady, so it wouldn't be that surpising if she was genuinely injury
