I thought elevensports were simply trying to rent a channel off sky and then customers still had to join eleven sports, is that not the case?

No, the platform runner usually pays the 3rd party channel owners. After all, Sky is the one getting the money from its subscribers. The 3rd party channels logically want a slice of the cake. There was a biggish conflict between Discovery and Sky about this some time ago.

If it was about having an extra subscription just for ElevenSports, I wouldn't see why they'd have to rent a Sky channel. You pay the satellite company (Hotbird or Astra) for that.
