Wondered this, they would absolutely wipe the floor with some of these guys to the verge of it not being safe really now they've take away headguards.

no high profile ones as far as I know. but the announcement was only made in like May that they could compete, so a bit late. in 4 years time wouldn't be surprised to see quite a few failed pros going for it

The lateness of the decision was muggy. Because it changes the landscape huge, and like I say could be bordering on unsafe to put pros in with some of these amateurs, they would get absolutely battered some of them.

Boxing at the Olympics full of corruption anyway. When Roy Jones got robbed it was so one sided that the ref lifted his hand in victory at the end assuming he had won, and the judges gave the home South Korean fighter the decision. It later turned out the judges had been wined and dined by some committee.

Not only home decisions though. Floyd Mayweather got robbed in Atlanta.

The Roy Jones decision is probably one of the most corrupt things around that isn't a known story unless you know boxing. Is literally just a total robbery. It was a complete beatdown.

It's really hard to keep up with all these matches with no streams. Just noticed Kasatkina is already 3-0 down to Jabeur.

Jones represented the United States at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, where he won the silver medal.[1] He dominated his opponents, never losing a single round en route to the final. His participation in the final was met with controversy when he lost a 3–2 decision to South Korean fighter Park Si-Hun despite pummeling Park for three rounds, landing 86 punches to Park's 32.[1] Allegedly, Park himself apologized to Jones afterward and the referee told Jones that he was dumbstruck by the judges decision.[2] One judge shortly thereafter admitted the decision was a mistake and all three judges voting against Jones were eventually suspended. An official IOC investigation ending in 1997 found that three of the judges had been wined and dined by South Korean officials. This led to calls for Jones to be awarded a gold medal, but the IOC still officially stands by the decision, despite the allegations.

Which shows you how stupid it is. It was clearly bent, and really is just a total robbery. Despite going on to have a successful pro career Roy Jones always talked about being robbed of his gold medal, which of course isn't right.

The U.S. team filed a protest over the Mayweather bout, claiming the judges were intimidated by Bulgaria's Emil Jetchev (head of the boxing officials) into favoring the Bulgarian Todorov by a 10–9 decision in the 125-pound semifinal bout. Three of Jetchev's countrymen were in gold medal bouts. Judge Bill Waeckerle (one of the four U.S judges working the games for the International Amateur Boxing Federation) resigned as Olympic Games and federation judge after Mayweather lost the decision, which was loudly booed by the crowd at the Alexander Memorial Coliseum.[31][32] "I refuse to be part of an organization that continues to conduct its officiating in this manner", Waeckerle wrote in his letter of resignation to federation president Anwar Chowdhry.[33]

In the official protest U.S. team manager Gerald Smith said Mayweather landed punches that were not counted, while Todorov was awarded points without landing a punch.[34] "The judging was totally incompetent", Waeckerle said. The judges failed to impose a mandatory two-point deduction against Todorov after he was warned five times by the referee for slapping.[30] "Everybody knows Floyd Mayweather is the gold-medal favorite at 57 kilograms", Mayweather said afterward. "In America, it's known as 125 pounds. You know and I know I wasn't getting hit. They say he's the world champion. Now you all know who the real world champion is".[34]

IOC tried to rob Ingemar Johansson of his medal, but eventually gave it back:
Johansson's introduction to the top rank of the sport was inauspicious. At age eighteen he was disqualified for passivity at the Helsinki 1952 Summer Olympics in the heavyweight competition in a fight against eventual Olympic gold medalist Ed Sanders. Johansson maintained he was not evading Sanders (who also got a warning for passivity), but rather was trying to tire his opponent. Johansson said he had been limited to a 10-day training camp, had only trained with newcomers, and had been told by his coach to let Sanders be the aggressor. Nevertheless, his silver medal was withheld for poor performance and only presented to him in 1982.[4]

To train for the third fight with Patterson, Ingemar sparred with a young Muhammad Ali, (known then as Cassius Clay) in Miami Beach. After Cassius had "boxed his way around the ring, as if it was he, using 'Ingo' as a sparring partner", somebody offered $100,000 to Ingemar to fight in a televised event with Ali, but Ingemar declined saying that the fight would not draw three ticket holders and that Ali did not have the ability to step in the ring with him at that time

It's the way it's scored at the Olympics that is the problem, and allows for easy dodgy scoring (albeit dodgy scoring still lingers in the pros too).
