Ridiculous to separate the UK countries, might as well split America into their 50 states too whilst you're at it

Also, if you're separating the UK.......
Then what happens when an English and Scottish pair, saying in Men's slalom C-2 as happened in London 2012, win a Gold medal? Does England and Scotland get half a gold each or 1 Gold Each, there are many events like this, like in Rowing, doubles and coxless 4 - 1/4 gold awarded ? I don't think this has been thought through |

it has been well thought through for the purpose of trolling

On the contrary, I think it's a good idea, if it were just Britain, it would be pointless as you'd know full well we'd win, separating makes it closer, having just looked at the English/Scottish medal haul, it's an English win, and a Scottish wooden spoon

You'll find out that England and Scotland are countries in their own right. Maybe you were unaware of that. There is no separate Eastern German country as jin already tried to explain.
|
|
By:
and in a country medal table the individual countries should be used.

It already takes part in the quadrennial Commonwealth Games but for the Olympics, Gibraltarians have had to represent other countries. For instance, in 1976, Peter Dignan, rowed for New Zealand, taking a bronze medal in the eights. Last year, in London, Georgina Cassar, who comes from Gibraltar, was chosen as a member of the British rhythmic gymnastics team and got huge support from her fellow citizens on the Rock.
Gibraltar has already taken the first step of competing in the Games by setting up a national Olympic Committee (NOC), which needs to be established to pick a team. However, its application to be recognised has yet to be approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Since 1996, recognition of an NOC can only be granted after the United Nations has accepted the applicant as an independent country and Gibraltar is a British overseas territory. Although it governs its own affairs, some powers such as defence and foreign relations remain the responsibility of the United Kingdom government. This is also true of other British Overseas Territories such as Bermuda, the British Virgin Isles and the Cayman isles but they were accepted before the 1996 change in the Olympic Charter and have therefore been allowed to continue to compete as separate entities. |
