The Yarra River.

"Levels of bacteria, particularly E. coli and substances like grease, oils and heavy metals in the Yarra River and its tributaries are a major problem.

High levels of E. coli, some up to 200 times the safe limit in its tributaries, are caused primarily by poorly maintained septic systems.[14]

Up to 350,000 cigarette butts enter the Yarra catchment storm water runoff every day,[15] these serve as just a small representation of the rubbish and litter that are disposed of in storm water runoff areas that eventually make their way into the river and from river makes its way to sea

Some industrial companies continue to use the Yarra as a dumping ground."

me mum, a naive country child at the time, likes to tell the story of jumping into the Spree while visiting Berlin during childhood. Major big time skin irritation and uncontrollable nose bleeds for brother, father and her afterwards. Think there might've been some blood vomitting too iirc Happy

Bathing in heavily polluted rivers rocks

I might want to tell my mum to send Angie a tweet about her experience....

Even as a kid I wasn't stupid enough to jump in the local river.

So basically Angie needs full skin tight body armour.

jumping into water and bathing was the most natural thing ever for her and her family. Coastal kids.

Though in all honestly I can't imagine any river (not located in South East Asia), to be as polluted as (East) European rivers were back then. The industry just put all their highly toxic **** into rivers without spending a thought on it

I've seen a few coyotes in the zoo, but not sure if they were up on any high rocks at the time. Probably not

Sounds about right Edy.

I can't say I've ever looked at a river though and thought I want to jump in that. They always look like sh*t to me.

Cyprus has some of the most unsafe stuff ever. I remember a water park, and they would never meet British safety standards. I think a couple of people had died in the past few weeks.

The had kamikazi slides which I'm sure would never wash here. The sides weren't that high, and I remember, your back basically didn't touch the slide on the way down, you basically just dropped.

Also I remember some slide thing where the current at the end pushed you into rocks (I think this had caused major problems).

I also remember, there was often a lot of building work going on there, in terms of building hotels. They had some of the most unsafe stuff ever there too.

I remember watching people tiling roofs on top of hotels (so very high), with no support, no strap, nothing.

I was taken down on water slide once. Went straight into me legs at full speed causing me to flip over however many times. No idea how I managed to get outta that without any kind of injury

This was all before Cyprus joined the EU. They might have higher safety standards nowadays.
