Apparently unsatisfied with his haul, he climbed to an adjacent balcony and stole a container with fried carp fillets, according to police from Valašské Klobouky in the Zlín region.
The crimes were reported by a 65-year-old and a 41-year-old man.
The scrooge-like thefts took place in Brumov-Bylnice, a town seven kilometers from Valašské Klobouky.
Christmas in the Czech Republic is celebrated on Dec. 24 (Štědrý den) with a meal usually of carp and potato salad.
The thief apparently did not even like goose. He sold it to a passerby for Kč 100, and that person sold it again for the same price — to a person who lived in the same building that it was stolen from.
Police did not report on the fate of the carp steaks.
Based on witnesses and other clues, the police believe they know the identity of the thief.
The suspect is a 35-year-old who is well-known to the local police and who has lived at several locations in the Brumov-Bylnice area.
Damage is considered at Kč 2,700 and, if convicted of property crime, the suspect faces additional fines adding up to thousands of crowns.
This cooked goose theft follows some two weeks after a man in Prague snuck into a restaurant and hid in the bathroom until it was closed. He feasted on six baked geese, three ducks, four liters of pickles, six kilograms of goose fat and liver paté, poppy seeds, butter, wine and other alcohol until he was caught in the morning.
Aside from the presence of cooked goose, the crimes are not connected.
