Sole virtual leader is pumphol. with 34 pts still available at best, badjoe and 6 others (including caramba and myself) currently on 5 can get to 32 at best. curious-cat with a potential 24 and triby22 and yyyy with 25 at the bottom of the list.

My calculation for the bottom of the table was wrong, yesterday, as I've missed to deduct STUDYFORM 3 pts for his Simon pick, which made him last on 23, he remains there today with 21 at best 1 pt down to curious-cat. Only Dimitrov's defeat changed the picture yesterday affecting 2 questions, pumphol., anubis7 and Muntz Street now joint virtual leaders with a potential mmaximum of 32, pumphol. still having an edge on already secured 7 pts.

It's very likely nobody will be scoring on question J with Darcis (facing Fed tonight) being the only one left beside Djoker, and noone having picked less than 2.

Another crucial match will bbe Makarova vs Svitolina on Friday.

Just Mr Djokovic survived to carry the flag for the D's as far as Round 3.
No-one went for only 1 so no points for anyone in section J.

Incidentally, I haven't been keeping up with Tennis of late, can someone tell me what all the "Retirements" are about?

Lots of update today.
Wawrinka's still in and if all goes to form, he should be playing Murray in the 1/4 final.
The remaining 2 Spanish men could be up against it to make it to round 2.
Of the 10 listed MEN 5 are still in, but for the WOMEN only 2 remain; Keys (who has to play Serena Williams) and Makarova (who doesn't).

Interesting to see Johanna Konta of GBR (well, Australia with Hungarian parents and training in Spain) getting to the last 16. Also the lesser known Estonian Anett Kontaveit who is even more of a surprise to have got so far.
If only they can keep the improvement going, though it is pretty unlikely, the womens final could be:
Konta v Kontaveit (fnarr fnarr)

Anyway;
SECTION B: 9 of the top 16 mens seeds made it to the last 16, and only
SECTION C: 4 of the equivalent women did the same
Interestingly the No1 seed in both competitions would seem to have relatively easy run-ins as the top halves contained the most seed battering so far.
The scoring was 4,2,1 in both sections.

Virtual leaders are the same with 23 pts at best, but those 2 are followed by the_don (hoping for Keys to beat Serena) and TheNorfolkMafia having picked Makarova, both 1 pt behind.

Still the 2 leaders can get to 23, followed now by Pokermonster and El Bandido (21), the_don (20,5), I-MAN and FatherMaguire (20), SabineIsGOAT and anubis7 (19), and alphaCentauri (18,5). 11 contestants have 18 pts as their potential best result.

4 questions are still unsolved, 2 of them with big majorities on the same result, but Wawrinka reaching the SF still could cause a major shake up, while foe question K the matter if there is a dead heat result will be crucial.

Well well well, The 4 remaining men (section K) all bit the dust in the 1/4 finals.
Gasquet, Anderson, Lopez and Tsonga will each gain 0.75 points, which could be crucial in the final reckoning.
Mr Wawrinka's performance will be vital too. Not least because he's the only one of the last 4 men left who isn't a previous winner.
As opposed to Serena Williams, who's the last of the 4 left who HAS won it before.

Some of the biggest turn-ups of all time in the women's event.
An all Italian final between the 26th seed and an unseeded player, both of them in their 30's, the top 2 seeds both being KO'd in the semis, and a new winner looming.
Amazing scenes.
Which, what with a Djokovic/Federer final means (to quote an old nudie mag) Men Only for E, 8 of 47 picked that, (odds of nearly 5/1)

Stan made it to the Semi, so another 2 points if you predicted that.

All this means that at not before 3pm (not before 8pm for most of us) we'll be counting the games played in the ladies final,
Uno, due, tre, Quattro etc....

If I had to predict it now I would do it at the upper end, but those who predicted the highest numbers (28 - 30) are already out of contention being too far behind, so Pokermonster (25) nand BARROWBOY (27) might be favoured, but it's even possible nothing changes at the top of the leaderboard if the final goes to a decing 3rd set and 3rd hour.
