Fantastic game - every bit as good as 2nd set 10th between Murray and Fed - and Muguruza is back to 4-5. ![]() |

I think Muguruza has a fighting chance and the fact that she beat Serena in Grand Slam before should also boost her confidence. However, Serena - usually does her homework when facing an opponent that beat her in the past, esp. if it was a major underdog. - is solid as a rock in finals (65-17); last time she lost a final was in August 2013 (Aza), and if we exclude two losses to peak Azarenka we'd have to go back to USO 2011. - has the added career slam motivation It should be a good match and I see two potential opportunities for Garbi: - she has strong starts and (1) if she controls her nervjoos mind and (2) if Serena is slow to warm up her engine Garbi could get a break or two breaks advantage early on. - if Serena wins the first set and feels strong in the second set her focus can go AWOL and we could see a replay of FO. In vast majority of 3-set finals Serena lost the second set after winning the first one. |

Serena's final record they mentioned on commentary is truly unbelievable.
Won 28 of her last 30 finals. Both losses to Azarenka. |

crowd gave mugaroo a massive injection of pluck appreciation there, which they should really know is lethal, given the numbers of times they've administered it to british players.

finish made as much sense as Mugs play there.

Did anyone back mug at 1000 and then smash back int serena @1.05.?

Nice of Serena to give the crowd some more time with her.

crowd was so gutted at the end hahahaha, barely a round of applause for the tank

I think muguruza was contemplating challenging
Serena is simply the GOAT. |

Serena hos won 8 out of 13 latest Slams.
|
|
By:
they made f*cking idiots of themselves giving mugaroo a standing ovation just because she got back on serve.
|
|
By:
Like I said, serena @7/4, azarenka @7, pocket change on muguruza and you have the US Open covered.
|
|

Muggy sadly ended up living up to her name, which is a shame as played well at points.

Serena 7/4 for USO seems a value price right now. It's hard to imagine her not starting shorter than this.
|
|
By:
Serena could of won 6-1 and bombed down aces, she just wanted more time out there and showed compassion to Muggy. Don't believe she felt nervous and tightened.
|
|
By:
that's unfair stu.
some absolutely stonking wins against Woz, Kerber, Dobby and A-Rad, not just the results but how she did it. massive ask to take on Serena when she settled given the occasion. |

handing serve back to love after the previous games is pretty awful way to go out. But women's tennis is utter garbage, so she will be good enough to win this in future
