I don't think he's been around for a while. I vaguely remember him being around in the daytime like a month ago maybe.

Panthers 4 in a row, against some mugs but 4 in a row nonetheless

Panthers looked good last week vs Falcons I thought.

I don't think it's right though that Panthers get home advantage over the team that had a better actual record than them.

or that a 7-8-1 team gets in really but thems the rules Plain

I get that though, otherwise you might as well scrap divisions and just have east and west conferences.

The fact those teams are guaranteed home advantage no matter seems a bit wrong though.

don't necessarily agree with it other, but such are the rules in most sports. For instance Monaco has home advantage against Arsenal despite having a worse record during the group stage.

although that's a lesser advantage than Panthers have here.

The difference in CL though is you only play who is in your group. So your points is directly influenced by the level of teams in your group.

Plus as you say both teams play home and away anyway. Has any work ever been done in how big an advantage is in playing the 2nd leg at home, it must be a pretty minimal thing like 55:45.
By:

It's tough to say, as I imagine the illusion of the majority of the time the stronger team is playing at home in the second leg makes the advantage appear greater than it is.

it's probably not that big, but they also have the advantage of not risking to play a group winner in R16.
Anyway, it's obviously more unfair in US sports since teams are divided into divisions because of practical reasons (it's a big country and it's not viable to travel between east and west too often) which leads to some teams getting advantages because they get to play less talented teams more often which boosts their record and gives them a higher playoff seeding (than they deserve). My point was that it wasn't something that was exclusive to NFL as teams often get "punished" for being in tougher groups. If the same divisions in NFL was always muggy I think this should be looked into so that NFC South winner doesn't always get this advantage, but these things changes, for instance NFC West was quite muggy four years ago with all four teams finishing with losing records but it has been the strongest division for the past years.

last year. Redskins are horrific mugs, Giants were awful for a long time last year, Cowboys went 8-8 for about 4 years in a row before this

Sweden had a divisional system in the highest hockey league in the mid 90's where certain teams played each other more often (6 times per season instead of 4) to promote local rivalries but it was later scrapped, I think partially because of complaints that teams in weaker divisions got an unfair advantage.

78-year-old Masafumi Nagasaki is the sole resident of a tropical island located at the southern tip of Okinawa, Japan. He would rather obey the demands of nature than of another person, which is what led him to escape civilization and live on Sotobanari Island. We decided to go and find out exactly what kind of lifestyle he's leading, and why he chooses not to wear clothes.
