The Football Association has withdrawn its bid to host the 2019 Women’s World Cup rather than risk another humiliation at the hands of Fifa. Relations with the world governing body are so strained that the FA thinks that its campaign would be doomed to defeat.
England had been one of five countries to submit preliminary bids, along with France, South Korea, New Zealand and South Africa. Final submissions are due in October, with a decision to be made by Fifa’s Executive Committee early next year, but the FA has decided to pull out even though it is convinced that England (dunno what of, paywall) |
