Time for another WTA competition! This one is very easy to enter. All you have to do is pick 3 future maiden slam winners (women's singles). Whenever someone gets all of his/her picks right that person has won. There is also an elimination question on when all of your picks will have done this to make sure we don't end up with a tie if more than one person has picked the same three players.
So simply write your picks in the same format I have done here (order does not matter). Please write full names, or at least first letter of first name, to avoid misunderstandings.
1) Simona Halep
2) Eugenie Bouchard
3) Belinda Bencic
Elimination question: September 14th 2019

Deadline for this competition is May 25th 2014 11.00 CET (10.00 UKT), which is when Roland Garros starts. At this time, there is no prizing associated with the contest other than the good feeling associated with achieving victory over other contestants.

If you want me to do the same type of competition for ATP let me know, and if there's enough interest I will consider doing this.

and both made SF and F at the following two slams. I still believe in Simona. Genie not so much, but too early to write her off entirely.

I had my doubts about Simona even when this was done, though for different reasons then, which is why I didn't pick her, but my picks are still a pile of crap.

Either Mesmerised or MK_ have the best picks it looks right now. But like I say I wouldn't be surprised if no-one even gets two correct ever, let and out all 3 (I would be surprised if anyone ever gets 3 correct picks).

You can question like I did with Halep when this was made, whether Bencic will just get blasted off the court too much to win a grand slam.

As it is, it's mentally the biggest question mark now over Halep.

There were question marks over Bouchard all along. Bouchard never really beat any elite player. Her best win was Halep in the Wimbledon SF, but Halep was injured. As it was had this been done after Wimbledon though, you would have got an even bigger Bouchard bandwagon.

On Halep, after the French Open (which was just after this) I thought it was pretty much nailed on Halep would win a grand slam. But she's done about as much to convince you otherwise since then. Struggling with the pressure, she's often going out early, and when she goes deep she tends to no post anyway.

would just like to say, I officially give up on this, and it's highly unlikely anyone wins either, although I seem to be one of the few with no retired players (this thread was made nearly 8 years ago), there is literally no chance Kiki ever wins a slam, I'll give aaron his due (although he's got 3 retired players in effectCry), he was right about 25 languages, she's an average single players but a (future) doubles GOAT, after this famous forum quote, she went on to reach 8 doubles finals in slams, winning 5 of them, another mixed doubles slam win, 2 tour finals wins and the fed cup event, plus career high N°1 (broken clocksGrin). She did however reach the dizzy heights of TENTH in the singles rankings, I remember her losing about 700 matches in a row but still clinging on that 10th spot for months somehow (was about 14 or 15 straight R1 Loses) but it was just brief golden period in the rankings, not even Bajin could get a tune out of her, in fact she said he added nothing, amazing, truth is, she gave nothing. Keys could win a slam, but that's it.

Caramba - Halep, Bouchard*, Bencic
mesmerised - Muguruza, Keys, Mladenovic
discipline - Garcia, Bencic, Lisicki*
edy - Halep, (Radwanska) , Wozniacki
Sabine - Halep, Lisicki*, Bouchard*
aaron - (Radwanska), (Ciblukova), Bouchard*
wisewords - Errani, Stephens, Halep
dstyle - Halep, Bencic, Pavlyuchenkova
mk - Halep, Garcia, Muguruza
Beaniash - Giorgi, Keys, Vekic
;[p - (Radwanska), Bencic, Konjuh
bb66 - Halep, (Radwanska), Bouchard
n88uk, Bencic, Garcia, Vekic

Radwanska and Cibulova retired
Bouchard and Lisicki effectively retired with bad injuries and illnesses
Errani 34 and will probably retire at Rome this year, struggles to win 2 matches in a row
Giorgi, Garcia, Vekic absolutely no chance

Pavlyuchenkova , I would not be overly surprised to see her get to 1 more slam final, but that's one big effort at her age now, best chance has gone.

Keys and Bencic, they could both win a slam, Keys will have to avoid players like Barty, Halep, Collins, no matter what great form she's in, it's just a terrible match up for her, and Badosa, she beat her down under but Paula had a shoulder and thigh injury.

Konjuh by p, she was 189th at the time and 16 years old at the time in May 2014, all that lurking around junior courts paid off for him Plain, she is a genuinely talented player who's made a very good comeback, if it werent for all the bad injuries particularly the elbow, she could have won a slam by now, she still could, maybe not on clay, but the constant pain she still plays through will probably mean not, would not rule it out though.

mk is probably the only person who could win, but that would mean Garcia goes on a mazy run at the French, not because she's French but because she used to know how to play on clay 5 years ago or so, but again, I doubt it, I can't see the aeroplane ever taking off again. Amazing to think she was once 4th in the world.
Report SamuelMertensBertens February 9, 2022 5:53 PM GMT
Agreed that it's unlikely anyone gets 3. Dstyle needs Bencic and Pavs to win. Both are possible, Bencic just won the Olympics which is the same field as a Slam pretty much, and has another 20-40 shots at a Slam depending on how her body holds up. Pavs just made a Slam final 8 months ago. While both are possible, the problem is both needs to happen, which makes it so much more unlikely.

I will give this a few more years and some more player retirements before I bin this. Let's see how things are then and maybe do a new one.
The ATP one is in even worse shape. So many were relying on the Dimitrov, Raonic, Nishikori generation and then the big 3 decided to dominate for another 5 years.

All of Halep's slams will have to be discounted, regardless of whether she was on peds at the time or not, as her record and her name would be tainted. The fact that I'm the only player on the points table without Halep, I would indeed declare myself, as the winner, Kind Regards.
Report Journeyman October 22, 2022 3:09 PM BST
If Hypelep is discounted that actually makes Beaniash the new hot favorite, (as much as I would have poured two month old freezing  custard over the dude's head at times).

All his players are still active and there are arguments all are still in the mix.
Vekic reached the final of a 500 just last week. Keys showed she can still run deep if she's been having fun in the doubles and Giorgi has taken some eyecatching scalps and has claims.

Three sidenotes

1 - I overlooked N88 who can also win without Halep. But in New York with her best chance ever in terms of draw and form, Garcia's choke after beating Gauff was probably the worst of the year. Doesn't have the cujones basically.
2 - I prefer it when a player gets caught that they quickly own up and specify when they started using something. Masha protected her Wimbledon title by doing this.
