Not carambastat but commentator just said that out of Ferrer's last 20 losses on clay in Europe 10 have been to Rafa.
Report n88uk April 18, 2014 11:33 AM BST
I think you will find they will.
Report n88uk April 18, 2014 11:34 AM BST
If Ferrer is 6-0, 5*-0 (40-0) he still won't beat Nadal on clay.
Report caramba April 18, 2014 11:38 AM BST
Almagro actually had 3 mps at 40-0 against Rafa once and still found a way to lose, so you could be right.
Report caramba April 18, 2014 11:46 AM BST
nice point from David.
Report edy April 18, 2014 11:48 AM BST
That Almagro match was on some nasty indoor court even.
Report caramba April 18, 2014 11:49 AM BST
yeah, must have been Paris 09.
Report caramba April 18, 2014 11:49 AM BST
good start for David here. already on his way to 6-0, 5*-0 (40-0)
Report n88uk April 18, 2014 11:50 AM BST
The usual early pattern is Ferrer goes up a break.

Didn't Ferrer even lead by a break in that 2nd set in Madrid?
Report caramba April 18, 2014 11:58 AM BST
pretty sure he did. maybe even more than once.

This might not come as a big surprise since Rafa pretty much wins everything on clay, but everytime Rafa has beaten Ferrer on clay he has gone on to win that tourney. While not a remarkable stat by any means, I do think Ferrer often provides a test where Rafa plays himself into form so even when he has mugged in prior matches, he steps up against Ferrer and keeps this level for the rest of the tournament.
Report caramba April 18, 2014 12:09 PM BST

When you look at how Nadal has played on clay recently. He hasn't played well this week, wasn't great in Rio, and I remember him being awful in the build up to the French Open last year (and indeed at the start of the French too), and he ended up finding his best stuff at the end of the French Open.

He hasn't gone on one of those absolute tears though where the just totally demolishes everyone all clay season.
Report DStyle April 18, 2014 12:15 PM BST
chickens and eggs caramba.

you could equally suggest that beating ferrer requires a lot of motivation and intensity and in doing so it acts as a marker for nadal's determination for the week.
Report n88uk April 18, 2014 12:20 PM BST
Nadal's backhand looks really poor this week. Forehand lacking depth and consistency. Serve woeful today.
