would that be the most underwhelming response to winning a first grand slam title ever by any tennis player in history?

Yep, no falling on the ground as is in the norm. I still feel it's a little tainted, and he may too, if he wins another may see a different reaction.

and they said he was a mental midget

he beat 3 players ranked above him on his way here including the world #1 and #2 which in all honesty have taken the ATP by storm in the last few years.

Berdych on hard court is no joke
neither is novak, especially at aussie open
and he topped it all off with a 3-1 crushing of nadal despite having a H2H of 12-0 and 26-0 in sets.

those first 2 sets were as convincing as anyone could be against nadal

and of all people in the ATP, wawa arguably has the worst record against nadal at 12-0 and 26-0 in sets.

winning your first grandslam title in your first final attempt is not easy, i can understand and make room for his choking antics in the third set, anyone else except for fed/murray/novak would do the same. as much as I love Murray, I believe Wawa has made a bigger achievement than him in terms of making a statement in your first grandslam final. took Murray several before he could win it.

let's not forget Ferrer and berdych, both consistent top 10 players have also had attempts at grandslam finals against nadal and have both lost, where as wawrinka, a recent entrant into the top 10 took his first opportunity against nadal in the final of this grandslam. what wawa has achieved is amazing.

more from him to come in the coming 2 seasons, a joy to watch in 2013 and a joy to watch in the coming years too

hmmm, in all honesty, i doubt nadals "injury". the only worry was his blister from earlier rounds. he's been solid all tourny and has taken the tournament by storm dropping only 1 set and even seeing off an excellent federer this tourny in straight sets, something he's never done in a grandslam, how come out of NOWHERE this back thing creeps in, coincidentally when  he's a set and a break down. I don't buy it, i just think he was taken by surprise at how good wawa can play and utilised tactics to drain him of his confidence

Not very shrewd to tank the 2nd set to play mind games with Wawa imo. Obviously it bothered him, and got a little better once the pain killers kicked in.

i thinkk nadal thought it would throw him off instantly, he tried to stop the rot instantly, it just didn't work. i think wawa knew what he was attempting. kudos to him for remaining strong mentally

But it was good to see he was able to raise his standard a little. Would have been a shame for Wawa to win his first slam  6-3, 6-1 ret. or even 6-3, 6-2, 6-0.

i think had nadal been playing berdych or ferrer and the way he creeped back in the third set, i think he would have gone on to take the 4th and the final too, i think stan is mentally stronger than berdych and ferrer

however i very highly doubt that either of those two could play at such a level stan played at to cause nadal to go down 2-0..

those first 2 sets, especially the first

stan was just amazing

never seen him play that well

never seen nadal look so average

Lol Mesmerized, how pitiful you are at making comments before the final even started.I have no reason to disappear, I am a winner through and through. I'm not here to gloat as looking at my balance gives me satisfaction enough.

Good luck with gambling on your buddy Nadal in the future.

Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka won his first Grand Slam title with victory over an injury-hit Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open final.
Wawrinka withstood a fightback from the world number one, who was struggling with a back problem, to come through 6-3 6-2 3-6 6-3.

Fortunes fluctuated wildly over the course of two hours and 21 minutes as Wawrinka opened in scintillating form before a tearful Nadal appeared close to quitting at two sets down, only to stage a remarkable recovery in the third.

"The last thing that I wanted to do was retire. No, I hate to do that, especially in a final," said Nadal, who revealed he felt the back issue in the warm-up.

Actually Mesmerized, If you noticed, I never told anyone to back Federer. You can take that quote out if you dare.  Injury or not, what matters is the money in my bank.  Couldn;t care less if you lost or not tbh.

You've obviously put your house on Rafa.  I am Nadal's biggest fan, but I fear his run against federer will come to an end.  I was always pro Rafa pre tourni (see my posts), however his chances are slim versus Federer.  I fear Federer will just aim towards his forehand side and exaberate the lister even deeper.
Nonetheless rafa may well win, but his hand injury will worsen vs Warinka making at LAY OF NADAL at 2.0 OUTRIGHT a perfect bet to a perfect Australian Open so far for me.

no need to feel embarrassed Mesmerized.  As to your nadal comment ... just follow me.
