In all seriousness Halep has every chance to become a solid top 15 player, likely even top 10. Just look at her results this year. She's already top 20 and has very little to defend until Rome, which is in May next year. Today she did come up against a more experienced player who handled things (the big stage, rain delay etc) better. Halep isn't used to going deep in slams but hopefully for her today will be a good learning experience.

(serious post)
Halep will be top 10 almost certainly. She's #15 in the race with effectively half a season. She's only 400 odd points off top 10 now for the year. She should break top 10 if not this year, early next year. This tournament was a shame, because she had a gift to the SF really. And with SF she would not only have been in pole position to finish the year top 10, she also would have been in pole position to make Istanbul. Tokyo and Beijing are a big chance for points, but there's going to be a lot of "luck of the draw". Sharapova almost certainly out. Serena I'll believe it when I see it. The draws could be wide open if you get the right section (ie. Errani's section), and you could make a lot of points. I imagine come Tokyo and Beijing there will be a lot of complaints of people vulturing points, because they have mess all over them. |
|
By:
To add to the above. The bottom half of the top 10 is incredibly weak. Errani has a lot of problems right now, don't know if she's burnt out or what, but mentally she sounds like she's feeling a lot of pressure. Bartoli is retired. Wozniacki rubbish. Kerber rubbish. Kvitova rubbish.
I think Halep can establish herself in the top 10 pretty soon, given what she's up against. Once she gets the benefit of easier draws she will amass a lot more points (she'll be seeded in a lot of events she wasn't this year next year). |
|
By:
Agree Halep will crack top 10 soon. She is probably nearer top 5 based on general form. But that is the third slam in a row where she has played as much tennis as possible beforehand and not been at her best.
I suppose that works for her ranking but she needs to be smarter preparing for slams |
|
By:
The previous 3 she had terrible draws though. What did she get. Stephens R1, Suarez Navarro R1 and Li R2. Won't get those anymore.
She's scheduled badly for the slams, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I've always been in the camp of if you have no chance of winning the slam, there is no point just putting everything into the slam, especially when you're not even seeded. She'll learn over time how to peak at grand slams. |

some might say Simona is a vulture
|
|
By:
Not really, because she wasn't the favourite in any of the events she won.
Vulturing can be smart anyway for certain players, I've always said that. |
|
By:
Halep will play Tokyo, Beijing, Moscow for the rest of the season. She will almost certainly qualify for Sofia. Still faint hopes for an Istanbul charge, needs a good draw in Tokyo and Beijing though.

will Ana get a wildcard for Sofia?

TOC clashes with Fed Cup finals so likely no Russian or Italian players.

about Woz, she could make Istanbul and maybe Sofia can do without her anyway. Was thinking Istanbul and the Turkish Airlines connection.

they should bring back the Turkish Airlines woz ad

Speaking of TOC, I find it quite surprising that Andy Murray in a skirt has never played this event.
