I think its definately worth it, I am there - a year subsc for 40 eur/year absolutely worth it.
Report Roker_Park August 15, 2013 5:25 PM BST
I use it and its definetely worth it, the subscription fee pays for itself after just one day! Wink
Report mnbfrankel August 15, 2013 5:50 PM BST
Seriously? How long you guys been using it and could you please tell what are the things they cover for a premium member? Because I can already see some good stats our there for free Silly
Report Srichaphan or Ancic? August 15, 2013 6:18 PM BST
If you want stats, just send me a private message, I'll get them for you for free from my database if I can.
Report mnbfrankel August 15, 2013 6:21 PM BST
Everyone here knows you have your own database. Stop blabbing about it ffs!!  I just want to know what do they offer for a premium user Grin
Report edy August 15, 2013 6:22 PM BST
mnbfrankel, I don't really know all that much about TI, but if you like a stat here and there you can also pay a visit to http://www.tennisabstract.com/
Report mnbfrankel August 15, 2013 6:24 PM BST
Thanks edy, honestly I have seen too many of these websites, but Tennis insights is extremely popular amongst tennis punters and I always wondered why and wanted to know what do they offer differently from others before subscribing for a package there  Plain

I am interested in set stats, i.e. % of career wins coming from a set behind or season % of 3 sets matches.
Do they have stats like that? After a quick glance, I couldn't find any.
BTW any service with stats like that?
Of course there is "On Court" (which I recommend, very useful tool) but for stats it's not very practical, too many menus to browse.
Report mnbfrankel August 15, 2013 7:08 PM BST
I second your point there mate. There are too much of information and too many menus obviously. Lot of statistics avaialable for punters is a good thing but is making things harder for the news users like us. Take notes Tennis Insight owner, if you are seeing this SillySilly
Report aaronh August 15, 2013 7:13 PM BST
tennisabstract has stuff like that Shamrock, and is free

You can find that on the website I linked to earlier, tennisabstract. E.g for career stats (all levels, surfaces etc) you first select the player, click on time span, then career. Also click on results in the left menu and then lost first set.

Don't think it can show you % of 3 setters easily, but you can select 3 setters and just do the quick maths manually. Just have a look yourself, there are lots of options.

Report Shamrock August 15, 2013 7:21 PM BST
Thanks Aaronh & edy, I'll check that site later. On alternative, there is the huge database of "On Court" in Access format but for quick reading / data mining it would require some DB management skills.

I won't bother offering again.

Report mnbfrankel August 15, 2013 7:39 PM BST
@SOA, you collected those from TI? You have anything that TI don't offer? In that case I wouldn't mind paying you either Cool
Report lurka August 15, 2013 7:44 PM BST
what does TI premium offer over and above what is freely available on the web, anyone?
I'd be interested in live winner/UE stats, which are only available for slams currently or if you have tennistv (at the end of each set). Winner/UE is one of the most important live stats imo, as it tells you how many points a player is giving to the other player. It's also great for comparing 2 players' previous round performances in a tourney.
I don't attach too much weight to historic stats older than 6-12 months old
Report lurka August 15, 2013 7:47 PM BST
SoA in fairness he is not looking for stats for one match, he is not going to msg you before every match (and you are not going to reply either)
Report mnbfrankel August 15, 2013 7:50 PM BST
GrinGrin Mate, if SoA can tell me what he offer differently from TI, I can pay him more than what TI is asking for!!
Report aaronh August 15, 2013 7:56 PM BST
i'm pretty sure SorA's stats are not match statistics
Report aaronh August 15, 2013 7:56 PM BST

tennis is living in a stats dark ages

atp/wta scoreboards without winners is shocking really

slam scoreboards are great but not user friendly (imo)

Report lurka August 15, 2013 8:04 PM BST
yeah aaron, that info is recorded by the umpire on his scorekeeper, yet not made available (even on the delayed scoreboard)
Report lurka August 15, 2013 8:05 PM BST
i would assume
Report aaronh August 15, 2013 8:07 PM BST
they post it at the end of a lot of matches on tv, so is available in some form
Report lurka August 15, 2013 8:08 PM BST
the ibm scoreboard is becoming increasingly shíte, they seem to think it is better to gather even more historic data to determine 'keys to the match' etc, makes it more of a resource hogger to use with every slam

yeah but you'd have to write it down, it's not made available after the matches
Report lurka August 15, 2013 8:08 PM BST
can't watch every match
Report edy August 15, 2013 8:10 PM BST
If the match is televised, a screenshot of the matchstats will often be posted in the match threads. At least on tennisforum, possibly on menstennisforums as well.

yeah but I am not sure how viable it is, it's only somebody's opinion of what a winner is, you see the stats at the end of sets etc and it says 18 winners to player A and you wonder if you have been watching the same matchCrazy

Yep, there can't be uniformity in UEs/W counts. In some match reports W are just aces and (sometimes) winning serves.
On a side note, who update the scores point by point? It is the umpire with his tablet - like I guess - or they have a "scoreboard boy" on each court?

well we can argue about what is a winner/ue all day. but when the stats are kept but not provided on the scoreboard was my issue

score updates are done through the tablet, pda, smartphone, whatever of the umpire.

Report lurka August 15, 2013 9:20 PM BST
aces and dfs are usually counted as winners/UEs. I'd rather have SOMEONE/ANYONE's opinion on what the count was

They let Gerry Armstrong do score updates? Shocked

Report edy August 15, 2013 9:27 PM BST
What's wrong with Gerry Armstrong? Apart from messing up big time in consecutive matches in Hamburg one year, I've not seen him make major errors. He's mostly active as supervisor though it seems. Doesn't umpire nearly as much as the big names.
Report caramba August 15, 2013 9:33 PM BST
Well there was the incident last week in the Nadal vs Djoko match where he said the wrong score at a crucial moment and also said "Nadal is out of challenges" just after Nadal made a successful one.
Report Srichaphan or Ancic? August 15, 2013 9:35 PM BST
There is a site that edy posted which has a lot of stats, although mainly for ATP. Try that instead, should be more useful than tennisinsight, which seems to have a very unusual method of rating a player's chances of winning matches.
Report Srichaphan or Ancic? August 15, 2013 9:36 PM BST
the umpires do not control the scoreboards at all events, evidently.
Report Srichaphan or Ancic? August 15, 2013 9:38 PM BST
And no, my stats don't include winners/UEs.
Report Srichaphan or Ancic? August 15, 2013 9:39 PM BST
but the thing I do have, which most of these other sites do not, is accurate odds and the ability to calculate whether the odds are accurate or not based on the stats. I think that is the key to a profit.

He's old, give Gerry a break. Old veteran Norm was worse than that.

For anyone wanting to part with money for S or A's 'accurate odds', this is a guy who is adamant that a player who was a heavy favourite at the start of the match should never be above SP at the beginning of a deciding set.

Surely there are only three relevant stats for betting on tennis.

Is the price right?

Are they the best player?

Are they going all out to try and win the match?

TI offers some really usefull information, like how is a player performing vs. left handers, how is he performing against big faves, underdogs...
the % of winning against top 100,50,20,10 players, on particular surface, at particular tourney... I think the info you can get there are really good, the only think they dont have is actual players comments on injuries - they have an injury site too, but it isnt as good on information as TT tennisform - but theyre too expensive imo ;).

There are only 2 things that I am missing there - winners/ue stats for matches and recently comments on players about their pscysical state, injuries...
