Who had this rather large headed gonk down as a clay specialist before recently?

Always had talent, but his psychotic tendencies always won the day when it came down to it.... before the clay season started.

Is it the clay, or is he showing more maturity? It's funny, coz of all the surfaces, I'd have thought clay would have posed the most problems for him. Not so!

Should we expect his form to carry over onto the grass and the concrete? (you'd think  he'd do well on grass) Has he been gelded? I'm perplexed.... Does anyone know what the f*ck is going on with him?  I've not watched him much during his run of form, but his results speak.

All said, Nishi will hand him his football-on-a-stick ass tomorrow, and I'm rather surprised he's not favourite...

I was surprised about the odds and backed Nishikori because I also consider it bet of the century... but with my current losing streak, you better back Paire to win some money Grin

I could never envisage myself backing Paire to beat Nishi - nevermind at the odds! If I did, and Paire lost...well.... I think I'd start to self-harm.

I never thought long rallies suited him. Always had him down as a wham bam player at his best. He likes to volley for a start.

benny may play great match or nishi may play some crap like against andjuar but overall nishi should break benny twice a set depends how much he will hold himself, bit of wta. nishi had 11 bp against levine in 3 sets and 23 in 4 against zemija. baggy had 16 bp used only 2 paire had 7 won 3,even kubot break him 4 times.in two setters they played on hc nishi had 10 bp paire 5. paire is showing some form recently and rising to potential nut nishi usually playing well against players he already beat before, it can be long match etc and paire won some epic matches recently but dont think he like to play against player with such quick and explosive shots like japanese guy

Agreed. Can see Nishi getting lots of opportunities to break. Wouldnt be surprised to see Paire get broken when leading 40-0 at least once!

Paire should be stronger fav, better clay player.  I don't think Nishi is so good on the dirt (yes he beat Roger but didn't he lose to some mug the next day?)

This is a really tough one to call.

If you're going on career statistics, Nishikori is better at serving seconds, returning firsts and returning seconds. Paire is slightly better at serving firsts. Going on career statistics, Nishikori is the clear winner.

As we consider only recent form, it starts to look more like a coin toss.

Here is what I'm working with, you might have a different interpretation. Sorry about my poor web deisgn: http://htmlpaste.com/8c2447aa0b498927a08da4ec4cc283bcac98314b

Paire is slightly better than Nishikori at winning first serves, however Nishikori clearly is above average at returning second serves and Paire is clearly below average at winning his own second serves. I think this is where Nishikori should win the match.

There is only one real reservation for me: The deviation in Nishikori's statistics are kind of scary. They indicate that sometimes he is amazing, sometimes he is poor, and rarely is he playing at what his average indicates (this sot of invalidates the probability chart on the right). This is confirmed by his recent history, where he has defeated Federer, yet lost to Andjuar and Chardy.

Like I said, coin toss. I'm going to take Nishikori at odds greater than $2.00 and hope it falls my way.

The odds have been strongly in Paire's favour all tournament, as if someone knows he is going to have a good tournament.

He has been very profitable for me so far, but it has only been Baghdatis and Kubot. No real opposition there untless Baghdatis is having his annual fire-up.

thing is that market making nishi 1.15 to be busted everytime he pull few good wins but after  loss he goes up to above eves against unstable french muger who nover won anything to be burned again

dont get me wrong im not saying paire has no chane but odds are way too much to his favour. Japanese usually playing well against players which matchup well to him and match they played indicates that it was fair contest but he was in full control

Nishikori has power for two set it means he has no chans today.
