The organisation in Brussels has put whole new meaning to the term backwards thinking. I always think Wimbledon handle rain badly, but this takes it to a whole other level.

we've already both made the same point, but wimbledon can afford to be difficult: the players aren't going to fack off early to make it to New Haven if there's a risk of it overrunning.

this is just major self harm: the big money for the sponsors and the venue, as well as its reputation, is getting the big players on thursday, friday and saturday.

they've just categorically facked things up at the expense of what - a few people missing out on some low level filth being played in the cold damp dark.

i can't think of a single mitigating argument for their decision to not move indoors today.

and i'm almost certain that the fft will make NO concessions whatsoever for any of the finalists.

Of course they won't. Why would they. It's set in stone. Whoever ends in the opening half of the draw will play Monday. They didn't make any concessions for Gasquet in 2010, they won't make any for any of the nobodies here.

It's a big issue in tennis that too many events are reactive to rain rather than proactive. You have weather forecasts, you can see it coming, but never do anything until after it comes. It annoys me to no end when events release order of plays they know there is a zero percent chance of happening, it's just a waste of ink.

Btw can someone post a link to the order of play for tomorrow when it comes available. Thank you.

i'm sympathetic to holding off on moving indoors even if the forecast is miserable, if it's the latter stages of a tournament: there are crowds and sponsors to appease; but there is NO excuse to not go in today, when it's effectively wednesday and you've only completed four main draw matches.

weather forecasters can get it wrong, so they are right to release the order of play and get on with it

the thing is if that if they were playing through to sunday, and this was happening, i don't think anyone would mind so much.

but they're acting like they are when their players can't.

Sometimes they are. They are rarely wrong when it says rain 100% chance all day though. You know then at least some of your tournament will be delayed, yet I see tournaments just ignore all the signs, and put out 4-5 matches per court starting at the same time as normal (Wimbledon classically do this) and hope some miracle occurs.

The irony is if it rains all day Friday or something I am 99% sure they have no choice but to move indoors, because the tournament absolutely has to finish on Saturday, I don't think they are allowed to flow over to the Sunday when Roland Garros starts. Ultimately as you say they are just ruining their own tournament. I imagine we will get a week of horrendous matches now.

That line at the bottom just makes it utterly stupid they didn't move indoors today.
