By:
there we go
By:
never in doubt !
![]() |
By:
Aww.. Got more fun out of that than I expected though!!!
By:
Could Aza be any tighter on match point lol.
By:
tactical timeout did the trick!
By:
ferrer or djokovic guys? im defo djoko if ferrer could lose the first 2 sets to almagro
By:
1.2 not bad
![]() |
By:
should be a good final .
By:
not as profitable as it should have been, but thanks ladies.
By:
Doesn't Djoko always beat Ferrer? No reason for it to be different this time.
By:
at least she not in denial about choke like some men
By:
full bank on li na for final based on this performance
By:
Lol isn't her answer in this on-court interview basically "There was nothing wrong with me, I just needed a MTO to get myself together."
By:
Yep.....all the shannigans was profitable / predictable Stephens couldn't hold (as I said dubious from a sporting standpoint).
Went off for nerves - in a way admitting nothing wrong with back/neck or whatever |
By:
crowd hates Aza
![]() ![]() |
By:
tantrums not lost on the crowd and li will be favoured by them in final ...victoria a nutcase
By:
Li crowd fav here no matter
By:
what
By:
That is bad play from aza...fakes an injury because she was feeling the nerves..shoudlnt be allowed
By:
li looks more solid, will win points on aza's second serve. Value on li, she should shorten imo
By:
think she used it to get an opportunity to go inside cool off and avoid having to serve for the match Harry
By:
not that makes it any better off course
By:
I'm not surprised it goes on Harry. It's obvious tactical timeouts have gone on over the years. I'm more surprised she basically openly admitted as such. The problem they have is unless you stop MTO's (never going to happen in todays age of health and safety) it's very hard to actually stop tactical MTO's, because how do you deem one as such?
By:
Might be a negative "fall-out" because of this for Azarenka. At least she told the truth - but in a Grand Slam semi-final a player admitting in a crucial stage she went off for mental/stress/nervous reasons - doesn't reflect well on the sport - the whole thing needs to tightened-up.
By:
let players do lie detector test when they ask for an MTO
By:
Complete filth, about time we just did away with MTO all together
By:
and on court capital punishment when they lies
with a market off course |
By:
Now Monfils will be taking mental MTO after the 1st game every match
By:
Pretends she has some kind of neck injury on court then says the nerves were getting to her...I think she will regret saying that.
By:
Still some chance she will be DQ
By:
how will she be DQ?
By:
I know what Aza did is not right and I don't condone it at all. Playing Devil's Advocate here: with what was at stake she bent the rules in her favour in order to win. She fought every which way she could to win. This is all a consequence of her winner's mentality. It was unsporting and against the spirit of sportsmanship but who cares? she wins, she will go down in history as Oz champ 2013 most likely and people will forget the MTO. "History is written by the victors" - Winston Churchill.

By:
Yer it's just the usual mountain made out of a molehill that will get massively overplayed in the media. Especially as it affected the American "golden-girl". Really she did nothing that many others haven't already done in the past.
In fact you could argue she was clearly more affected by the problems she was having than some of the "injuries" we've seen others have in the past. |
By:
The Williams sisters have done this type of thing many times. If they prevented a player from taking an injury break until before their own serve, as I thought they were supposed to, then this situation wouldn't happen.
Azarenka is a cheat. Everyone knows it. It is why she has had many fake injury timeouts. It is no coincidence that she has retired from more matches than any player on the women's tour. A poor example from a top player. Compare to Federer, who has never retired. This woman shrieks ridiculously, and fakes injury. Until the WTA get this type of thing removed from the sport, womens tennis will continue to be ridiculed. |
By:
its a BS rule and always has been. Its for the crowd and no other reason. Name any other non team sport where you are required to outplay, outwit and physically wear down an opponent and where if the battle gets too tough for you, that you can raise the white flag and have a break or get medical assistance. If i as a player Id exploit it to. why not. winning is about using all the tools at your disposal. the WTA and ATP provide this tool for players so are to blame.
IMO should only be able to call a timeout of any sort before a return game, and you immediately forfeit that return game. ( except if playing Dr Ivo.. where its reverse of that rule..haha) |
By:
Yeah shocking tactics from Aza, hope Li smashes her to pieces. Un-Australian behaviour at the Australian Open
I won't stand for it... On another matter, does anyone else think Sloane is kinds hot? ![]() |
By:
*kinda hot
By:
But probably quite typical of someone from Belarus.
By:
I can honestly say I've never met a Belarussian that I can recall...
