I saw him against Youzhny and today, was impressed with him, but the price is ridiculous and I think the amount of money there laying Davydenko 1.58-1.60 is telling the story.
By:
I agree this is all getting nearly too confident on Davydenko. To the point of danger.

Gasquet is a slow bast*rd who doesn’t really run for much. his fitness is in question for me. who better to play to those weaknesses than donkey? jackass has amazing pace and great accuracy on shots as demonstrated today he had ferrer on the ropes. Unless Gasquet makes an early impression, I think Davy is just too explosive for him to handle

By:
only seen 2nd set today but he destroyed ferrer

Ferrers game plan is forcing the opponent to make errors, ferrer doesn't lose to opponents smacking winners (with the exception of nadal feds and novak), his downfall was simply davydenkos power, pace and ability to accurately place his shots, someone with those strengths would crush anybody, even possibly the "big 4". Gasquet is too slow, and he creates too many sloppy UE's to keep up with the groundstrokes davy will execute (considering he hits the ball as cleanly and accurately as he did today and yesterday).

AZ91 - good point, Gasquet can be sort of lazy and today he was way too passive, which was caused by Brands' good, aggressive play from big part. He will need to run even more and work harder. On the other hand, he came up with the goods when he needed to, which certainly boosts his self-belief.
I would expect Davydenko to be more around 1.70 than 1.60. At these prices I see value in Gasquet even if he may not win. It should be a lot closer. Not tempted for a pre-match trade as the majority of punters will back Davydenko based on his great play against Ferrer. |

Thanks Vasek, yeah, you've made a fair point too. My advice to anybody is to watch the first 2 service games of every player, to get a feel of their mentality and see who looks in better shape and who's on better form on the day to take lead.

By:
they have a very tight history. 3-2, and in no particular order of dominance either, it's not like either is on a run of wins against the other.

Davy is yet to lose serve this week!! If he plays like today Gasquet has no chance
By:
I didn't see much of Davy last year but have seen his last two matches and he is striking the ball extremely well.
I've watched the Gasquet matches also, not nearly as impressive, very passive at times but looked ok when he did attack. Gasquet, especially on his backhand likes to be given time to take his long swings and he is going to struggle with preparation if Davy continues his early ball, inside the base-line strokes. May have to watch a couple of games before getting involved. |

THE BIG QUESTION IS
what is the difference between price money winner gets to loser |
By:
not triple to runner up shirley?
By:
It all comes down to how accurate Davydenko can be tomorrow, that's the key attribute (now I discovered America, I know
) As StevoDevo pointed out, he can fire it back at the opponent taking the ball early after the bounce and if this works, then it's probable Gasquet will lose. Each day is different, though, and I'll watch the opening games to see if I get involved or not. However, if Gasquet goes up to 2.70 pre-match, then I'll back him before it starts. ;[p - not sure and didn't bother searching for it as I think motivation is the same for both players. |

Davy was outstanding yesterday... if he keep playing in the same level Gas has no chance IMO.
By:
and he was keepin all week wo lose a serve game. i see huge value on him
By:
huge value

Silly price is silly. Davy can easily have a bad day and lose without much fight. When he was at his peak he was practically unplayable but not these days.
By:
If Davy plays like he did yesterday then Gas has no chance...Simple as that!

agree with Marin,no value

If they both play the way they have been playing this week Gasquet will get annihilated. He stays way behind the baseline, gives the initiative to the opponents, and was bossed around and lucky to win against both Zemlja and Brands. Davy is a confidence type of player. When he is on, often goes all the way. When he is off, crumbles in the first few rounds. His record in finals (21-6 ATP only, 25-6 with challengers) is better than anyone's, including Fed, Nad, Djok. I actually think that 1.65-1.70 represents a good value for Davy given the circumstances and I will be backing him without trading out. Obviously, I will be watching them in-play and can change my mind if they are not playing as I expected, but for now I feel pretty confident in Davy's win.

By:
davy looked a bit tired at some moment in the 2nd set but then he began to play fast again
if gasquet can exhaust him then he wins nothing can be taken for with gasman. he's a top player and he can up his level in the final. without this he'll lose even worth then ferrer |
By:
For what it's worth - I think Davydenko has decided the whole thing is his. I know he's been a little 'unreliable' at times - but I think he's really enjoyed this last week and I don't see him playing silly fools (even for money on bets)today. He's there for the kudos of winning the first of the new year. I'm backing him
By:
what is the change that Davydenko will play the same level as yesterday?
I think pretty good change. considering he has been playing quite the seem level all week. he has quite good results in doha (see past results). it seems the court perfectly matches with his game style.. good atp final records of davydenko davydenko would be my bet.. |
By:
in case of davy h2 h is very important.it shows if the opponent can cope with dav rushing shots where he usualy gains advantage.
value on gasgay to me |
By:
Davydenko for me, i know he is a tough cookie to judge but he played amazing yesterday. Would like higher odds but i'll take 1.68

Gasquet has withdrawn from Sydney:
Tsonga, meanwhile, was to be top seed in Sydney but suffered a hamstring injury while representing France in the Hopman Cup on Friday night. The 2008 Australian Open runner-up was to have been replaced as No.1 seed by Gasquet before the world No.10 too pulled out citing personal reasons. What's this all about then Ricccchard? |
By:
he playing here how could play in sydney then. no time to adapt and long journey. thats why he pulled out
no more than that |
By:
Commentator just mentioning Gasquet's superstitions, that's a good point too. He could get easily distracted if the umpire gives him time violation warning.

GASQUET = TACTICAL SPASTIC

By:
Great tennis from Davy
By:
Well, I was wrong
Glad I didn't back Gasquet eventually... and not going now as it seems like one-way traffic. Davydenko superb and Gasquet defending like crazy. |
By:
Davy's taken the ball early again. This looks ominous.
C'mon Davy! |
