Just now, in the new year.
I think they introduced it for him especially... ![]() |
By:
Rafa is well over the 20 seconds by now. It's been six months.
By:
when he comebacks the rule will be scraped
nap |
By:
Yeah, he'll threaten not to play at all.
By:
will it be enforced properly though...and against the big dogs like sharapova? They should put a big shot clock at either end of the court so the players and crowd can see how long they have.
By:
no chance it will be inforced. not on rafa n masha nehow.
By:
oh just read it's only for the dudes...
By:
maybe if they stopped towelling themselves down after every point they would have enough time to serve
By:
these are PET towels obviously, no chance they put them aside
By:
maybe that's why he pulled out of Abu Dhabi and onwards, would love to see how he copes with it, but I fear I never will. Tbh, he will have big probs to hang on a whole match with his exhaustive style, but it's got be punished like that
By:
Rafa plays to Rafa time and NOBODY elses.
Re: look up Malisse's rant vs Isner in last years US Open. Funny stuff. Everybody knows it and the umpires will do nothing about it. Just like every match," Malisse said. "We get 20 seconds. Nadal gets 45 seconds." |
By:
I think pressure from TV comms and also opponents will be too big to ignore on top guns, they will .have to adjust. Would love to have an opponent in Big Mac style pointing it out

this rule is made not to use it strictly, only to avoid situation ifvthere would be no rule at all and player would prologue match deliberately. people who call for executing it are idiots theres how players can recover in long match without taking a breather,or concentrate in noisy arena without it. it would affect standard of tennis only to benefit hit and hope mugs. anyways matches are long not because if couple of seconds only because scoring is as it is. and u can sustain level without time to recover during long matches
By:
can't
By:
you cannot implement this without making allowances for the length of the previous point.
flagrant facking about between points is unacceptable, but you should not be penalising a longer break after long points. |
By:
Nadull benefits by taking 50" after every point, the rule has to be executed on him as well!!!
By:
a player should benefit if he manages to win points fast, I remember the Wimbers final Fed vs ARod which showed how you can pull through games!
By:
sory but i never noticed this untill someone started to talk constantly about it i like tennis like it is. besiedes as a trader isnt tahat better to have bit more time between points?
By:
it's not only towelling, it is Nadull's cleaning the lines, Shazza's pulling her hair stain and Djoker's bouncing the ball as well, how could you not notice it compared to Fed, ARod, Clijsters or earlier Hingis?
By:
i dont care what they do beetwen the points, for me there is no difference between few seconds here or there. tenis isn time framed sport, who cares.
i knowwhat they do but it make no difference to me.everyone is different |
By:
Tennis is a sport and fitness is part of the game. The player who arrives for the match better conditioned deserves his advantage and the umpires are letting Djoko and Nadal's opponents down by ignoring time violations.
By:
u saying that their less fit than other players.... hmmmm
By:
Nadull is probably not fit enough for pulling through his playing style with enforced time constraints, he would have to adjust going for the points earlier, thereby maybe making more UEs
By:
tennis is a sport where you should play better tennis than opponent then win.its not track and field sport. everything is balanced to the extend that players can show their skills during whole match and thats the border line.lwts addup pushups between pounts we will see whos rhe best tenis player
By:
let's *
By:
"lets addup pushups between pounts we will see whos rhe best tenis player"
You completely miss the point. With your logic we should play one point per day after a one hour warmup so each player is in absolute peak condition for the point played. Nadul may be as good as he is because he recharges so much between points. If he didn't then he may be more vulnerable. Enforcement of this rule will let us find out if this is the case or not. |
By:
well its u missing the point, im not here who wants changes .im ok with how it was for years in tennis. its enough of endurance sport atm why add more strains on players.ridiculous
By:
Would matches such as last years Aus Open final between Nadal & Djoker have been as epic with this rule strictly enforced?
Surely we don't want to detract from the quality of tennis? |
By:
You've made it very clear you are happy for one player (Nadal) to be allowed more time to recuperate than another (Malisse). This gives Nadal an advantage. If you don't agree with the time being enforced then this is what you are saying.
By:
im sure it would affect most players more than nadal in terms of durability. and he would be better of if it would have impact ob players. but thats not the point who is better off. point is to have playera fully fit and have them playing their best
By:
About time, nadal and djoker have been abusing this for years
it's a very weak argument to say that the tennis quality will be reduced, it's an obvious nonsense. Nadal takes as much time as he can because of the way he played, he needed as much rest as he can get as somebody has already said. |
By:
I'm just playing devil's advocate. Not sure what the solution is. Clearly some player's take too long at times, Nadal being amongst the offenders.
I just don't want an epic battle ruined in the 5th set because players are getting the hurry up. Maybe you should get more time if it goes the distance.. |
By:
its clear that its mallice who want to gain advantage by forcing rule which doesnt go with the nature of this sport. nobody stopping him to take more time like95 % of players does who arent ADHD disordered, to " recharge"
By:
"ut thats not the point who is better off. point is to have playera fully fit and have them playing their best "
No - the point is that it is a level playing field for everyone. Make it 60 seconds if you want I don't care. But don't have a situation where Nadal gets twice as long as other players as happens at the moment. |
By:
why nadal needs more rest, ffs doesnt he play the same lengh of pointvas opponent? lol
thats bulshjt its rathwr nadal who is dominant isnt he |
By:
I don't think it's always a rest issue in regards to Rafa- it's more of a psychological ploy that he uses, you play when I'm ready.
Djoker uses it more to compose himself, they both use it to their advantage in different ways, but it's certainly not ALWAYS a fitness thing with these two, they are two of the fittest on tour! |
By:
"nobody stopping him to take more time"
Err - the umpire stopped him having more time. |
