also, one thing that is slightly worrying re: pliskova, I watched the second set of her match with sanchez in the last round of the qualies (it was on the freebie US open qualies channel) and she was dealing very badly with the heat/humidity...she was VERY lucky to crawl past the finishing line, had it gone to a third the american would have owned her...
so, to conclude, while she is the better player (v minella), if this goes the distance I doubt she will hold up

had a look at this one. they met once before on clay in an ITF qualifier in 07 when P was 15 and Mandy 22. Minella won in straight sets but the first set was 7-6 (9-7), close to dropping that to a 15yo. Grass is Plisk best surface but she has a better record on hard than clay. Clay is Mandy's best surface.
Plisk is in better form on hard this year too. She has beaten Goerges & Hercog (Wimbledon) in her last 10 matches, Mandy hasn't beaten anyone that good.
So the change in surface and 5 years growth/strength/experience for plisk should mean that if she can beat Goerges in straight sets she should have no trouble with Mandy? Minella didn't deal with the heat well in begu recently, but then again nobody did, it was 35 degrees. Mandy got to the 3rd round here 2 years ago. I'd wait to see how this one starts. I haven't watched Pliskova play.

The problem with the Pliskova sisters is a lack of consistency of their performances. The talent surely is there, they are even strong in the head (for their age) but not at this level of tennis yet. They need experience, experience and experience and continue in the hard work, that's the road to glory. Good job by backing Minella.
