Report drwankenstein80 • August 28, 2012 6:16 PM BST
sorry diarssonf but i am in agreement with Hanescu. US Open is once a year and to tank first round against a clay court medicority is unforgiveable

Report DStyle • August 28, 2012 6:33 PM BST
raonic isn't tanking.

he's trying to play slow court tennis on this slower court which is idiotic given his opponent
Report Horangi. • August 28, 2012 6:34 PM BST
Giraldo spinning in his second serve at WTA levels.  Raonic still backing up a mile behind the baseline ala Gasquet.
Report singero • August 28, 2012 6:34 PM BST
too much pressure on the kid. that's the problem with over-hyping someone- he's supposed to be so good that this is easy, and when he struggles, he gets far too frustrated and negative. look at the body language... probably five examples of this this year.
Report Horangi. • August 28, 2012 6:34 PM BST
Raonic running around to his forehand way too much, doesn't have the foot speed to do effectively do this often.
Report DStyle • August 28, 2012 6:35 PM BST
exactly horangi.

he's not playing his game, which given the match situation is incredible.

you can understand his getting it wrong early doors, but it's sh1t or bust now, and he's still playing as though he thinks he's on clay.
Report drwankenstein80 • August 28, 2012 6:35 PM BST
giraldo tightening up a little it seems. cant see it making much difference though, raonic so far off the pace today its embarassing
Report Horangi. • August 28, 2012 6:36 PM BST
finally, Giraldo trying to give that game to Raonic.
Report Horangi. • August 28, 2012 6:37 PM BST
Raonic is playing like crap and an idiot tactically but he is still trying, give him that.
Report drwankenstein80 • August 28, 2012 6:37 PM BST
good point singero. thats why the right coach is so important in tennis, help keep their guy focused mentally and deal with pressure
Report Supernando2010 • August 28, 2012 6:38 PM BST
Raonic wins this 3-2 surely

Giraldo made a clear statement that he is unable to finnish this match when he got broken the last game.

Very insecure and inconfident, only waiting for Raonic to miss.
Report singero • August 28, 2012 6:39 PM BST
if he can get more than 50% fs in, and build on easy service games, this will turn into a whole other match.
Report drwankenstein80 • August 28, 2012 6:41 PM BST
dunno about that nando, giraldo to his credit has played a solid match, a wobble on serve in the 4th set doesnt mean he should be written off, and the way Raonic is playing even if he scraped through to a TB you wouldnt bank on him coming through it. although if he does youd expect him to take the 5th
Report drwankenstein80 • August 28, 2012 6:53 PM BST

Report Supernando2010 • August 28, 2012 6:53 PM BST
what do you think now?

im telling you, that game told me giraldo simply doesnt have it in his pants.

Only way he wins this is IF Raonic loses it for him, now way Giraldo can win the match.
Report tatarin • August 28, 2012 6:55 PM BST
market believes in Rao, although it is clear Giraldo gifted last set
Report drwankenstein80 • August 28, 2012 6:56 PM BST
yeah you are most likely right mate. cant believe we have seen 4 sets featuring raonic and not a single Tie break!
Report tatarin • August 28, 2012 7:00 PM BST
giraldo was checking his BF account
Report Supernando2010 • August 28, 2012 7:01 PM BST
I dont like the value, however. It's getting tiring for both of them so it is becoming more of a mental battle. Raonic the better player with the better tools should somehow prevail of course but im out of this one with a small profit on both rather.
Report tatarin • August 28, 2012 7:01 PM BST
yeah, and giraldo gave him some rest too

Report smb360 • August 28, 2012 7:19 PM BST
I think there is one here. Isn't the US the only slam with a 5th set tiebreak?
Report drwankenstein80 • August 28, 2012 7:19 PM BST
no not in grand slam. they just keep playing until there is a two game victor. they could be out there for a long time!
Report judorick • August 28, 2012 7:20 PM BST

Report smb360 • August 28, 2012 7:22 PM BST
Just google something like 'US open 5th set tiebreak' loads of hits will come up

The US is the only one, and people always moan about it. I knew there was one slam with final set TB, but just couldn't remember whether it was this one.

Report smb360 • August 28, 2012 7:37 PM BST
I based that comment on a few of his recent matches e.g. vs ERV where there were an embarassing number of breaks and break points

well that was a mad game, up and down all the way, Raonich's major fault was that he played so deep behind the base line the entire match, Giraldo was able to boss him for those 2 sets, even 2nd serve he wouldn't come in, don't know why but he got away with it in the end.
