He did the same at Queens, everyone was questioning his chance at Wimbledon cause of his shocking Queens effort now we have exactly the same situation.
I know people don't believe players tank but its quite obvious, Nadal does it a lot too before slams. |

At one stage Murray put his heart and soul into winning an impressive sequence of Masters events (including that Cincinatti final against novak) and the people responded 'yah great when do you start winning slams' so he's just shrugged and is doing what the people want.
