Whats more they somehow managed to get Bolettieri to commentate for the radio, and to be fair he knows his stuff, but then they put him alongside that female tennis superstar that is.. Mattek-Sands.

and she doesnt stop referring to mental strength, which considering her inability to serve matches out, is laughable.
By:
Apart from that idiot John Lloyd (how did he get this job?) and Virginia Wade, the coverage is good. Okay they amke mistakes but you can watch the match on red button.
By:
I dont mind Wade, her voice is annoying, but she talks sense. All Lloyd does is say the same phrases over and over again until all the viewers are asleep.
By:
John Lloyd reminds me of the type of person that would be in a pub while the England match is on, talking to the pub owner at the end of the bar about how he is unable to water his pot plants because of the hosepipe ban.

More brilliance!! Only missed one whole service game and the first point of the next in the channel swap....

i loved mcanroe on commentary when he said to fellow commentator former player(dont remember who it was)

Agree with johnyrant 'Mind you, the Beeb's archaic coverage suits the Wimbledon organisers and schedulers who are an archaic mob. They regularly ruin classic matches on Court 1 by insisting on starting at 1pm despite loads of rain being around, resulting in the last game being suspended at a key moment.
On 'People's Saturday' we are supposed to applaud roundly at all the showbiz glitterati/hangers on who get to see it for free and sachmooze in the Royal Box.' It seemed to go on forever all these gravy trainers standing up and down like meerkats. I'm surprised there was any room left for the general public. as for the red button, they giveth and then take away, the other day showing five minutes of a ladies match then switching to a mens match, with no way to watch previous match on either channel or red button. they also used to show more courts on red button.this is probably due to budget restrictions, having spent too much on muliple pundits/'experts' who are paid from our licence fee to drone on and on. Why the british public still have to pay the bbc a licence fee for a vastly reduced service than previous generations having lost most sports to cable/satelite broad-casters. The time has arrived that the bbc should be pay per view then anyone who wants to watch poor sports coverage, depressing soap operas, old films,'talent' shows etc. can stump the money up or not. |

Was trying to watch yesterday, and the schedule said wimbledon coverage yet on beeb1 and 2 they were showing stuff like Top of the Pops or something - the matches were actually showing on red button, but wtf???
By:
..anyone know why they weren't showing it when even their own schedule said they were!?
By:
this is just fuc kin ridiculous what they do with this matches.switching all over the place on set points to show worm ups to switch to another match
wtf¡!!!!!!!!! |
By:
Pafettic innit.

By:
beggars belief that the fed match in not on either bbc 1 or bbc 2 at the moment

did they mention who the bird was sitting next to Scotty Pippen ?!

I'm watching the bike peddling. Was she fittable ?

Was watching the Schiavone Kvitova match on BBC2 until the rain delay at the climax of set 2. They decide to replay some of the Masha match during the delay but don't bother to go back when Kvitova restarts and takes the set. Awful, awful from The Beeb.

Yep, Barker making excuses but it's been a bad performance from the start..

Un-effing-believable. There's only one match on court, and the Beeb leave it to show a replay of the Fed tiebreak.

I seriously could crush a marshmallow at the moment..
By:
I like Claire Balding's commentary, they should give her the tennis correspondent job.
By:
I might be wrong, but I thought she was leaving the Beeb since they've pretty much lost all their racing coverage.
By:
I wouldnt blame her. She is probably their best sports commentator/presenter and could a lot more money elsewhere.

She could take over Eddie Hemmings job for a start..

By:
they are keeping us in suspense with the federer result
ffs i wonder who won it, please tell me sue |
By:
I just wondered that. I went out and came back and had more money in my account so presumed Fed had won. I noticed the money was in my account and then she went and said that. I was nearly confused. Sue might catch up by the final.

By:
well they are waiting till it rains so they can show it us
i just wish they'd show us now ![]() the bbc still thinks we're in the 80s.. the way they tell us to 'look away now' before motd comes on |

Poor coverage is the same every year! Many other countries coverage of Wimbledon is better than ours as they have true multi screen and not some half arse effect as with the BBC.
By:
Sky do it great when they have the US Open on...
By:
That's one event. Other sat providers across Europe covers all Grand Slams in the way they should be covered, giving the viewer true multi screen court choice that doesn't flick from one court to another (as with the Beeps 'multi screen'). In the US ALL Grand Slams are covered for free, again full multi screen. In short, the UK't tennis coverage sucks.
By:
BBC were showing same games on both HD channels at the same time ! Pathetic !!!!!
By:

ESPN has rights to a lot of Grand Slam tennis, particularly the early rounds - This is not a free channel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_broadcasting_contracts_in_the_United_States#Tennis |
