match which would leave anyone losing absolutely seething
|

By:
Caroline was right back in it actually at the end . Pity had to end
|
|
By:
it was clearly in, watch the match and not imagine things for the benefit of your wallet

"Caroline was right back in it actually at the end"
not really, match should have ended, woz got lucky with the call and got another chance and still couldn't do anything |
|
By:
The umpire was right, it was in and Caroline missed. She got a second chance...
Only Masha could raise objection because of bad call... Caroline not to be proud of her behavior at the end... |

next game then .

Sharapova was forced to win the match point twice, and she did it !

Only Masha could raise objection because of bad call... Caroline not to be proud of her behavior at the end... Caroline every right to be angry with the umpire. Kader Nouni should not interfere on such important points, when the decision is super close and impossible to tell by the naked eye. He already srewed Nalbandian doing that earlier the year. That is what challenges are good for and Sharapova might have challenged it, but it was very wrong to overrule. |

no offence but this is the most ridiculous ive read today so far CHAIR UMPIRE SHOULD DO THAT MORE OFTEN! He is not in the match to call the points and it was a very close call to his position, even better point of view than the line judge. He also said to Woz "ball touched the line, you have to trust me" so he was completely sure about the call, its his fukcing job! |
|
By:
No the umpire is there to guide the match according to the rule book.
If the call is clear, like inside the line I would not have a problem with him interfering. But when it barely touches the line, it's just wrong to interfere, because you have to be like 95%+ certain you got the call right. Everything else is just unfair to the players involved (just ask Nalbandian, a thing like that should not ever happen to a good umpire) Considering his history Kader Nouni interferes on MP at a 50/50 call, that's just awful. |
|
By:
if the call is correct, then its the right thing to do.
if the call is wrong, then its the wrong thing to do. This time he did good by calling it in. |
|
By:
btw, why have a chair umpire if he's not allowed to make any calls?
ciritise him if he makes wrong calls but praise him if he makes correct calls |
|
By:
the ball was in the middle of the line
in a decisive point and close to umpire view FFS ARE WE CRAZY? it was the correct call to make and as he said to woz "caroline, the ball was in the line, trust me" if he was so sure OF COURSE he should make the call |

i dont know what u wanted to say with that.. if you are saying that onoe of the umpire missions is not making corrections.. you are clearly wrong |

i dont know what u wanted to say with that.. if you are saying that onoe of the umpire missions is not making corrections.. you are clearly wrong The umpire is there to ensure the match is played fair and all is going according to the rules, make the occasional overrule if it is a very clear decision. He is not there to interefere and decide matches, gambling on close calls he feels are in or out. The call was very close, it is impossible to see it with the naked eye at the speed the ball is served. The line judge already called it out. It's wrong for the umpire to interefere now, because it can seriously affect the outcome of the match. He told her he was absolutely certain, big joke, the ball was about half an inch in. That's luck he called it in this time, the other time he didn't. The best cause of action is to stay away from close calls at crucial points, especially when players have the right to challenge. He could have just said: "Maria it was very close, do you want to challenge?". That's what a good umpire should have done in my opinion. |
|
By:
so you are trying to say line calls are ENTIRELY the linesmen's calls and the chair umpire should have NO say whatsoever.
rule-book does not say "chair umpire should never intervene on important points despite clearly seeing a call being wrong" Basically the chair umpire should have no authority on the match. |
|
By:
He could have just said: "Maria it was very close, do you want to challenge?".
What if Maria was out of challenges? |
|
By:
You guys are thinking too result oriented.
The umpire should overrule, if the decision is a clear one. If he is smart he just hints to Maria it's a close call, because this does not qualify as a clear decision. He was wrong before on such occasion, just stupid to risk it again. The right thing to do here is to hint to Maria the call is close and she should consider to challenge. i) Caro won't be pissed at him, she didn't even shake his hand, because she saw the ball out. ii) It's not even part of his job to overrule on such a call, it's way to close to do it, the line judge already made a decision about it. iii) If he gets it wrong it's really awful, because he would have decided the match and not the players. |
|
By:
it was clearly in, smack bang in the middle of the line and not even close to being out.
1) caro was wrong and was classless here, she saw the ball out and she was clearly wrong. thats caro's fault. 2) he should overule if he thought a call was wrong 3) true but he didn't get it wrong this time |
|
By:
it was clearly in, smack bang in the middle of the line and not even close to being out.
If that was the case and the ball mark was clearly in the middle of the line it be ok with it, since it would have been pretty clear. ~70% of that ball mark was out though, hence way too close to call, but who cares everyone has his opinion about this one. |
|
By:
this umpire was a complete idiot in the nalbandian v isner match. in fact he was retarded, however you can't deny he made a good call here.

Wozniacki gotta be utterly embarrassed after reviewing the final minutes of her match .
What she did was out of character , she is better than that , and I am sure she will learn and become a better person after this incident . Something worse than that occurred in the Soderling vs Nadal , Rome 2009 . Soderling made a complete **** of himself , I am sure he was totally embarrassed . After that episode , he never bitched so fiercely again . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CnX6k0snxA |
