Interesting to note that both players are currently 16-3 for the season, but of course federer kills it in the head to heads 9-2.

I keep waiting for del potro to step up to the plate and enter this league of elite players, but his two loses to federer this year he hasn't even won a single set.

Obvious mental edge going on here between the two players favours fed.

It would be a real great game if del potro could finally put it together but he hasnt won a set in their last 8 sets.

Whoops

Del Potro's two loses came on slow courts, with low bounces.  Low bouncing courts is what Fed thrives on.  Remember his trouncing of Nadal in Shanghai?  These conditions allow his backhand to work well, but I will be looking for Del Potro to win today.  Obviously only inplay, after assessment.

Fed did destroy Del a few weeks ago.  But it was on an indoor low bouncing slow court.  Fed is master of exploiting those conditions.  Gets his best results on such.

Today gives us very different conditions.  Just watch a bit, and if you like watch you see, think about Del Potro.  Thats what I'm planning.

The most aces market, which has appeared from nowhere on some matches again, should be interesting, because even when he has been beaten, Del Potro has often fired more aces past Federer.

but fed loves low bouncing quick courts, this is exactly what this is

it isnt high bouncing here Confused, im not sure if you think it is

del potro doesnt like courts this quick imo, montreal/toronto tournament is his best surface

jsimpson is right, Federer does not like high bouncing courts and this isnt one of those.

If Fed has been given the same eye drops as Djoko then it's got to be Del boy.

Easy for Fed. Too smart for DelPo.

frozendog: Dubai has been a quick low bouncing court, Federer will relish these conditions, certainly more so than Del Potro. Also, this is Del Potro's third tournament in 3 weeks, I think he will be that bit more tired than a Federer who looked rejuvenated in Rotterdam.

Just like the murray V djoker game, from a betting point of view it pays to sit some out if unsure.  I really like del potro and his form, but with these stats it would be stupid to part with ur money on an outsider.  There's always so many tennis games to choose from you don't need to be on every one.

maybe, but he has never beaten Federer 2-0. And Federer rarely loses 2-0.

fed struggled in parts against llodra and lopez. and if either had been better would have nicked a set.

I'm with Lochinvar here but not for "del boy wins first set, FACT" noone should speak like that imo cause nobody predicts the future... I just think Del Potro can give way more trouble than Feli, Llodra, Mika and Del Potro himself ( Rotterdam - INDOOR ) did...

fed did what he has done hundreds of times... nicked an evenly balanced set with a late break for 6-4 or 7-5 and then won tie breaks
