I cannot believe that everybodies wonder boy has fallen in the first round here. There was me thinking this guy was the next best thing, the next GOAT, the next multiple grand slam winner blah blah blah.
He had a good few weeks and everybody was going head over heels for him. He will always be tough to beat on a hardcourt like Karlovic was but he moves a little better and has a few more weapons off the ground but Del Potro is ten times better than him and only 2 years older than him. Oh and the small fact that Delpo has won a grand slam and been in the top 5. He had a good run but having a lull now (until he gets back on the hardcourt) but he wont back up his results that he did this year. The second year is always the hardest after you break through, look at Dolgopolov. |

oh ffs everybody, he's not a clay courter is he....you lot write him off, fine by me

This thread sums up this dreadful dreadful forum.
People so desperate to get one over someone else that logic and general human thought have been replaced by morons equipped with emoticons. Babelicious is by far the worst. He literally has the IQ of a carrot. |

Haha, if he was the next GOAT, the next best thing and has been training on clay with his spanish coach to improve his claycourt tennis for a while now and that hasn't got him good enough to win against the likes of Michael Berrer and Ivan Dodig then something is a miss. He only has a chance on the fast hardcourts as his serve is key but like Karlovic the top guys will figure him out pretty quickly and will not do as good next year and that is a very big FACT.

Raonic is several classes above the likes of Karlovic. Anyone comparing the two should be sectioned for being a danger to society.

I didnt compare Raonic to Karlovic. I just said that like Karlovic the tour will figure out Raonic's best weapon his serve out very quickly and will not be able to back up the good results this year again next year. It is just a fact. The second year is always the hardest after a good break through year.

welshie mate, what's actually a fact is that you are spouting a load of old b ollocks. the kid is playing on clay for the first time this year and it's not his surface, and although today's result is undeniably disappointing ( i suffered financially) - it does not in any way undermine the kid's chances of reaching the top ten pretty quickly. it is most definitely not a fact that he will struggle next year - far from it, i expect him to be much better with the experience under his belt. what matters is whether you have a) the weapons to reach the top and b) the mental toughness. i would say there's a very strong likelihood he has both
wish he'd won today though fully agree with seanyp btw |

Get that £100 ready nick lol
seriously though if half of these posters watched all his non-televised matches during that hard court swing you will of seen he is more than just a big serve. |

But would you not agree that with Delpo being better than him and only two years older than him, Djokovic light years ahead of him and only 3 years older than him, Murray who is much better than him and only 3 years older. Oh and Nadal is only 4 years older aswell.
The thing is with Raonic is that, granted he has a very good serve and is very mentally tough but isn't great in many other departments. Okay, most of it will come with experience but you can't get it all from experience. The top guys will figure out his serve and once they do then he will not win any big matches. There are many great returners at the top of the game and great movers, both aspects that blunt Raonics weapons. He has a chunk of his ranking points to defend at the begining of next year with a QF in Australian Open, title in San Jose and a final in Memphis. He will struggle to defend them points, and that will lead to him slipping down the rankings. He has had bad results for a while now, not just on clay. He lost to Harrison in IW, he then lost in the first round vs Devverman in Miami. Now he has 3 back to back 1st round exits to deal with. I thought that he could do well with his game-style on grass but in his current form I really doubt that he can pick himself up to do what I expected of him. The key to his success will be the US hardcourt swing and he will need alot of wins to help get his confidence back. But I still feel that he will get found out by too many players and need to improve many different aspects of his game to counter every figuring out his serve like Federer did with Roddick's serve. IMO I think that he will reach the top 10 overall possibly top 5 later on in his career but I doubt he will ever be number 1 with the class that is only a couple of years older than him and I doubt he will win any grand slams as his type of game leads to many long matches. |

you are comparing him 2 a great in nadal and novak is heading the same way...you cant figure out a serve hit at 140mph+ down the T

no chance of no1 and i doubt he will make top5

This is what I am trying to say, everyone was saying earlier in the year that he was the next best thing and he was going to be a number 1 in no time.
What everyone forgot is that Djokovic, Murray and Nadal aren't much older than him and Delpo is only 2 years older. With them still in the game Raonic will not have a sniff. Djokovic, Murray and Nadal are all world class returners and would break through Raonic in the end. Like Federer had Roddick's serve to deal with when he was in his prime and look what Federer did to that. This is what will happen to Raonic but I do think at the moment that if you take away his serve or you neutralize it then he has next to nothing to come at you with. That is why he needs to improve his groundtrokes and movement tenfold to deal with that. |
|
By:
im not sure who said he would get to no1
|
|
By:
yeah not sure anyone said he was going to be no.1....i have said, and bet that he will be top ten and imo he will prob be top five. but v tough to be top 2 or three......
welshie you think he is going to be top ten so not sure where the disagreement ism bar the fact i actually really rate his forehand. at the mo he has an appalling sliced backhand and his movement is questionable, they need to improve... |
|
By:
Lot of people said he is top 10 material, and this is true.
Nobody said he will be No.1 IIRC. He will have chances in both hardcourt GSs every year if healthy for sure. I am not convinced about Wimbledon, he will always have bad clay season before grass comes around and that is not healthy ![]() |

Losing to Berrer is an embarrassing result. Cost me plenty. I still believe he has the game to blast his way through Wimbledon and with a good draw can go all the way.
