A medium sized track, but still the sixth largest of the British tracks, with sweeping bends and a long run-up for all distances other than 661 and 868m.

Race 2
A tricky opener, with just trials and breeding to go on. It’s anyone’s guess whether many of the going allowances for the trials are very accurate, so I would not read too much into the trial times. The best bred Greyhound to my eyes is Droopys Christian, who’s dam has thrown some fair sorts and whose granddam is the late Mega Delight. Only minimal investments can be made.
Race 3
This looks to rest between last week’s impressive scorer Lily Mayday, Step On Brett and Redbrick Droopy. Redbrick Droopy has not contested any sprint opens, but has run some pretty decent trials over Monmore’s 264m recently. He also showed fair early boot at the Ladbrokes festival over 416m at Monmore. His trial over track and distance is less inspiring however. On a small sample of sprints here, trap one might also be a disadvantage. Step On Brett has won 7 opens and has run a trial 3 lengths faster over track and distance than Lily Mayday. Lily Mayday is open to some improvement. While they are both priced up 7/4, Step On Brett is the call, without there being great value available.
Race 4
This bitches open looks pretty competitive on the ratings. The inside drawn pair Bandicoot Frisky and Millwards Siren have won the most open races in the field and it may pay to concentrate on them. Bandicoot Frisky looked suited to a galloping track when winning a heat of the Nottingham Oaks and she is the selection.
Race 5
The British bred stakes would have the look of a penalty kick for the '10 Sussex cup and Derby plate winner Head Iton Ellis, were he not returning from 82 days off the track. He was last seen contesting the Select stakes final. His recent trials have been pretty encouraging and he has a sound chance. He does however have a liking for the rails and also is hit and miss at the traps. Townhill Widtink has some early pace and that might give Head Iton Ellis something to think about on the run up. The main oppposition comes the way of Saint Jack, who won the Nottingham Produce stakes (7 opens) and Mill Jaguar, who has bagged 9 open races. Saint Jack looks the value call at the prices, hopefully he can deploy his ping tactics.
Race 6
This looks to be one of the weaker contest on the card, though all bar Mojo Black have won at least one open race. Westmead Wings’s long absence is a negative factor for his chances. Slaneyside Mitch has won 2 opens so far and certainly has a decent srtike rate. VC appear to have gone out on a limb with Lucerne Rhys at 13/2. His recent second to Droopys Belletti catches the eye and he is the selection.
Race 7
Another weak contest, where a couple of local graders have been drafted in. The race looks between Deerfield Sam and Wimbledon puppy Derby finalist Taylors Cruise. Deerfield Sam’s form looks much the best, though he is priced accordingly in a watching race for me.
Race 8
Banker by name, banker by nature? Three graded Greyhounds, Fred Zeppelin, Mottos Banker and Droopys Joe make up the field. Mottos Banker and Droopys Joe certainly look the two to concentrate on. The ratings scream out Mottos Banker here. The negatives are that all Mottos Banker’s UK runs have been at Sheffield and he has not been given a trial around here. Droopys Joe has trialed back well following a layoff, but he does not trap well. Mottos Banker seems very likely to make all.
Race 9
I have not seen the heats of the Betfair sponsored Yorkshire St Leger, so let’s have a run down of their achievements and chances.
Ballymac Rumble won the Summer classic and would seem to have every chance based on his form in this competition.
Pennys Genesis won a heat of the Steel City cup, but looks to have it all to do here.
Frisby Fontenblu was a Blue Riband finalist, but this trip appears to be a bit too far on evidence to date.
Bower Hawk ran a decent second to Droopys Bradley in the St Leger at Wimbledon. He came from last on that occaision and has had rather too many seconds recently for my liking.
Droopys Belletti won a Regency heat. He sets the standard and is unbeaten in this event.
The grand old servant Carbarns Tom won a heat of this competition in 2008 and 2009, but is nearly 4 ½ years old and this is surely to big an ask? Trap six has an excellent record in open races at this distance around here according to my open race stats.
