Each narrative is widely known in each voting camp but Golf fans seem to think there story is bigger and better, the massive driver of him winning.
We know F1 has a bigger following than Golf and Football dwarfs the pair of them, so the strength of each narrative and how its portrayed on the night will play a big part in vote motivation.

So Rory won the Masters in a dramatic playoff, that's fair enough. Then came the Ryder Cup where Rory and his wife got a fair bit of grief, It might get talked about in his VT. If not most surly in the wider Ryder Cup segment it will.

So yes decent story but its not the only one that the market thinks it is.

Lando had an up down season, leading early and then going behind and finally retaking the lead and winning. Although this was almost derailed by a thousandth of a millimetre 3 races from the season end. With him being disqualified, which meant we would see a dramatic last race shootout.
In the final race which was shown on BBC news last night and will be shown on the night was him being forced off the track by Yuki, with Lando having to overtake and sparks flying off his car dramatically has he reemerged back on the track.
For large parts of the race he was being pressurised from the Ferrari of Leclerc, had he passed this would of seen Lando out of the title race.
We know Oscar would of dropped back to let him through but im pretty sure on the night this won't be mentioned to keep the tension high.
So Lando did hold on verses the other two, winning the title by 2 points, in one of the most exciting finishes to a season in a very long time.

So that takes a bit of gloss off Rory's big story

Onto the Lionesses which now seems like a distant memory but on the night will all come flooding back into the memory banks by swarms of eager fans drooling at reliving this glorious moment once again.
I guess this story has 3 massive story lines to it as its a team sport so needs to be broken down verses the other two stories being individually based.
Plus we don't know for sure which lionesses or lioness will be listed but for the main VT of England winning i think all 3 of these stories will be focused on, but even more so for whoever gets listed obviously in there VT.

Chloe was the super sub who came off the bench in all of the knockout games and played an instrumental part for England to go on and win, pumping crosses in to be scored and scoring a goal from a pen rebound. Then in the final what some might say was fate, she came on early for an injured Lauren James. Only to set up the equalising goal and then score the dramatic final penalty in the shootout.

Hannah played her own instrumental part in goal, having lost the opener. England were struggling and it appeared her 73 yard pass verses Holland was the key moment that set England up for the fight ahead.
The 4 pen saves in the quarters and final are widely talked about and will play a very big part on the night and so should these moments as well

But many of those fateful moments when England stood on the brink of crashing out, only to remain alive, involved Hampton. There was the diving stop to deny Fridolina Rolfo when England were 2-0 down to Sweden in the quarter-finals. The point-blank save from Emma Severini when England were 1-0 down to Italy with just minutes to go in their semi-final.

Now onto the bigger picture of England winning as a team and the remarks of the manager.
At this part i will throw in Lucy Bronze should also play a massive part in this storyline, having played every game with a broken leg. Not quite but im sure on the night they will say it was broken lol
sarina described England's win as the “most chaotic and ridiculous” she had experienced, England led for just four minutes and 52 seconds of the knockout stages but finished Euro 2025 as the champions.
Sarina Wiegman says the dramatic quarter-final victory over Sweden was "one of the hardest games she's ever watched'

So there we have it, as much as Rory dealt with an over excited American crowd, that story on the night will get massively swallowed up by Lando and even more so by the lionesses own insanely dramatic win.

lol well said army

I read it and agree that on the night it will be about the narratives and for many of the 16M who watched,  Kelly smashing home the winning penalty, will be their sporting moment of the year. Along with the other amazing comebacks throughout the tournament

The Rory price just doesn't make sense to me. He's shortened since Norris won

If something doesn't make sense then you have to start considering 'foul play'

We've seen countries in Eurovision, throwing money at the market, as they know being seen as the favourite or one the favourites, is a big positive. It means they receive far more pre-show publicity. Which is likely to lead to a higher pv

In the same way, Rory being seen as the hot favourites, probably helps his vote on the night and dampens the votes of others.
Why tune in and vote for Chloe/Hannah or Norris, if Rory has it in the bag

ah yes, he's definitely getting a lot of media attention for being the 'new' fav, as i just said that could also be a negative leading to voter complacency. Also i think that would hurt Lando more than the girls as men are so lazy when coming to voting, i loved Tom and wanted him to win. I never missed a show, did some voting throughout but couldn't be bothered in the final. That says it all
This fav narrative won't even come into play where the girls are concerned, many women never even look at odds or are interested in betting or talking about betting.
They will simply watch the show and vote

Also fig, Rory was 1.20 in 2014..didn't help him much then when it was purely a male driven show and a lot easier to vote
By:
armagnac
When: 09 Dec 25 11:03
Its now very much female driven with the presenters and audience, plus a lot harder to vote. Where there is a lot more effort involved

If the BBC have any sense or perspective of your narrative in the lead up, they will need to make sure one lioness is up. Coz if its two, then i see Rory going 1.30 in a flash. Lando is friendless in this market, seemingly getting no respect whatsoever

lol brushy

There are positives and negatives to being seen as the hot favourite, but overall I think it's a positive

I agree they'll want a Lioness to win though. The BBC have been backing female football for decades. I remember watching the Lionesses when Alex Scott was still playing. I think it must have been a WC in the States. As it was in the early hours. With probably a 100K watching, if they were lucky

Kelly smashing home the winning penalty, will be their sporting moment of the year

For this one moment i think Chloe would hose up and would be better that she's up on her own, financially i want Hannah. Hannah deserves it far more imo but her great stories don't fit into a 2 minute VT with so many achievements to also cram in for her.
Which pains me greatly coz her whole story needs telling and is very deserving of the award but i can't see it happening.

Chloe no backstories gives plenty of time for the champions league moment and 2022 winning goal moment to also feature, making her pretty much unstoppable for the win.

Even though i think the panel will favour Hannah i think Chloe has the better compact story to win. Don't mean Hannah wont win, i just think Chloe would get more votes coz we get her whole story. Instead of part of Hannah's

Its so hard toss that coin, just not both up

Chloe definitely the more iconic player and the bigger character. Which is why they'll almost certainly plump for her

It was a tiny vote, promoted on the BBC world service. No promotion on any mainstream BBC radio or TV channels.

People in Mombasa can't vote in SPOTY
By:

You would imagine fig, if the hannah numbers on that vote were pretty mediocre then Chloe is a cert for the nom alone, maybe that is what they were testing when they left Chloe off. To see what hannah is capable of ??
seems a possibility, coz Chloe popularity really doesn't need testing

I also believe once the list shows a lioness on it, Golf fans who are already vocal in slamming Chloe and sports fan slamming women in general, they won't even watch the show coz of its wokeness, its already being portrayed as the summer for the women as cider pointed out.

lex Kay-Jelski, Director of BBC Sport says: “This year has been once again packed full of amazing sporting moments and stories. I'm glad it's not me having to pick who to vote for! We’ve seen drama, triumph and unforgettable moments on a global scale – and our homegrown stars, especially the women, have delivered like never before. I can’t wait to see who the public chooses to take home the win and celebrate another brilliant year.”

Alex says

To be highlighting more and more females on such a huge occasion makes it even more of a celebration and highlights how far we've come and the steps ahead that we are still yet to reach

When: 09 Dec 25 13:23
I wouldn't be shocked at all if Littler came 2nd and Lando came 3rd tbh, Littler's vote will increase by a ton from last year imo for two reasons

1) Keely backers from last year and general viewers who are not a fan of F1, footy or Golf will this year reward him when they didn't or couldn't last year.

2) hardcore dart fans didn't think Littler deserved it ahead of humpy, plus the vote will be far more motivated this year to go one better.
By:

I agree. Littler gets a bigger vote this year. Especially if he leaves his dad at homeGrin As you say, far more deserving this year

Last year he hadn't won the worlds.

He's now officially world champion, the youngest ever at 17, and voting will be in the midst of a campaign where he should still be in and favourite to go back to back. Darts is very much at fever pitch during the Worlds.

I'm approaching this from an analytical perspective. What they have done to sport in recent years is chit chat really, which I don't shy away from lol, but the mood music is all about women's achievements, inclusion, and progress, re-watching last year's it was the same. Like I said three months of world sport was covered in less than two minutes, then it was followed by a massive segment on grass roots/community boxing. They are more likely to double down rather than think we need a male winner, or something other than footy. Reality is that footy looks like their only route, no doubt the rugger ladies will get plenty of flowers though. Mc or Chuck could win in spite of this.
By:
Cider
When: 09 Dec 25 13:41
My personal view is that community/grass roots sport is really important and deserves being represented on terrestrial tv. However it would be better distinguished from spoty. The two hour presentation feels a right mess, hodge podge, jumping from one thing to another. Giving fleeting acknowledgment to important stuff, then extended coverage to others. It doesn't make any sense, that F1 segment I linked to was standalone, but other sports didn't get segments. Boxing got its own one too.
