Lando could see similar viewer numbers as Lewis i guess if he makes it interesting, ties in with Keely's 9 million.
Keely has 524k on insta, Lando has 8.9 million. with Global F1 audiences av 70-80 million per race its not hard to see why his numbers are massive. Lewis has 37.5 million on insta, which this article represents i guess. not sure how many he had when this article was published but probably close to amount now. Keely attracted more viewers with far less followers so its safe to say, Lando's numbers are largely from the outside of the UK and won't be voting. thought i'd clear that up before some clown posts his millions of followers, not that he won't get a sh1tload though. Those petrol heads are loyal. . https://www.sportspromedia.com/news/abu-dhabi-gp-tv-ratings-uk-f1-channel-4-sky-sports/ Abu Dhabi GP draws 7.4m peak UK audience as Channel 4 and Sky Sports share coverage 4.4m tune into Channel 4's free-to-air broadcast, representing a 60% audience share. The Formula One season finale that was contested at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix drew peak audience figures of 4.4 million on UK commercial network Channel 4. Max Verstappen clinched his maiden Formula One world championship with a thrilling last-lap overtake at the Yas Marina Circuit with a one-minute peak viewing figure of 4.4 million at 2.32pm UK time. The Red Bull driver stormed past title rival Lewis Hamilton in the closing stages of the race on 12th December, having benefited from a late safety car that bunched up the pack. F1 finale to air on Channel 4 as Sky agrees sublicensing deal There was a combined peak TV audience of 7.4 million at 2.32pm – a 60 per cent share – with Channel 4 and all three Sky Sports channels that were broadcasting the race. Confusion reigned as under-fire race director Michael Masi changed his mind to allow lapped cars to pass the safety car – meaning Verstappen had a clear run at Hamilton in the final lap and, on much faster tyres, made his move to claim a first Formula One title. Mercedes immediately launched two appeals against the result, one against Verstappen for allegedly overtaking under a safety car and a second claiming a breach of rules regarding race restarts following a safety car period – both of which were dismissed. Channel 4 chief content officer, Ian Katz, said: “Though many British F1 fans will be disappointed by the result, it’s fantastic that Channel 4 was able to bring this nail-biting finale to the 2021 F1 Season to 4.4 million viewers free to air and, in partnership with Sky, to an incredible peak audience of 7.4m. “Following on from the return of Test cricket to free-to-air television, a remarkable Paralympics and Emma Raducanu’s triumph, it was a fittingly-dramatic end to an extraordinary year of sport on Channel 4.” |

This article is based around social clubs, and backs up what a lot of locals and landlords have told me in pubs about extra dart boards being put up.
. https://www.clubmirror.com/news/premier-league-darts-returns-following-record-viewing-numbers-in-clubs PREMIER LEAGUE DARTS RETURNS FOLLOWING RECORD VIEWING NUMBERS IN CLUBS PDC World Darts Championships Final between Luke ‘Cool Hand’ Humphries v Luke ‘The Nuke’ Littler attracted just under 500k viewers in pubs and clubs 2024 got off to a flying start for sports viewing in pubs and clubs, and on January 3 close to half a million viewers (472k) watched the finale of the PDC World Darts Championships in an out of home venue. This figure represents the highest viewing for darts in pubs and clubs in well over a decade, and eclipsed the quarter finals as the most viewed day of the 2024 Championships, which saw 410k watching out of home. James Tweddle, Director of Hospitality for Sky Business, said: “December through to January has seen darts fever sweeping the nation, and we were thrilled that so many people were able to enjoy watching this major event in our customer’s venues.” Charles Littlewood, Deputy Chief Executive of Association of Conservative Clubs (ACC), said: “We as an Association have had a huge amount of feedback since the World Darts Championships concluded. The darts has not only helped drive footfall to our Clubs, but has also stimulated interest in creating darts leagues. Darts clearly has the potential to help drive membership engagement.” Attention will now turn to the start of the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts which includes both the newly crowned World Champion Luke Humphries and the teenage sensation Luke Littler, with reigning champion Michael van Gerwen also starring in the eight-player field. The Premier League gets underway on February 1 in Cardiff with each event live on Sky Sports. Sky Sports is the home of darts with over 60 days of exclusively live coverage from the biggest tournaments every year including the World Darts Championship plus the Premier League, World Matchplay, Grand Slam of Darts, World Grand Prix and World Cup of Darts. The record-breaking evening saw a peak of 667,000 tuning in to watch a night that included a repeat of the Darts World Championship final between Luke Littler and Luke Humphries - with Littler winning out this time. There was an average of 450,000 viewers throughout, with Michael van Gerwen, Michael Smith, Gerwyn Price, Nathan Aspinall, Rob Price, and Peter Wright making up the rest of the lineup. This was the highest ever viewership for the competition, with a 45% higher average and 35% higher peak than the previous record - which was set in the last week of the 2015 edition. Compared with other opening nights, the average is 85% higher and the peak 100% higher than the previous record set last year. Overall viewers of the event came to 910,000, a 63% increase from the opening night last year. Interest in darts has soared since 17-year-old Littler, who was 16 at the time, made an unexpected run to the final of the World Championship last year. The final between the teenager and Humphries, which Humphries won, reached 4.8 million, and a docuseries has been commissioned by Sky. |

World championship viewing figures, year on year since 2021 darts was growing and with Littlermania it doubled from the previous year last time out.
Its more interesting to note though, back in 2010, 888,000 watched Taylor win his 15th world title who would then be shortlisted later that year after having a fantastic year. Phil managed 72,000 votes and finished a long way 2nd. With Tony getting 293,000 votes. Luke's potential for votes appears to be MASSIVE going by that especially as luke's SM followers completely blow the power away. Anyone thinking Littler won't get nommed better think again, stories like this will guarantee his place
. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-68067803 Luke Littler: Darts sensation hopes to inspire next generation Teenage darts sensation Luke Littler has spoken of his hopes to inspire the next generation of young players. He fell just short of becoming the sport's youngest world champion aged 16 when he recently lost the PDC World Darts Championship final. 'Luke the Nuke' has just won the Bahrain Masters but came home to Warrington, Cheshire, to celebrate his 17th birthday with a Chinese meal. He also visited St Helens Darts Academy where he first started playing aged 10. Littler met 87 young darts players during the surprise visit at the Merseyside academy after his whirlwind world final debut. "It's been crazy," he told BBC North West Today during the visit:. "It's great to come here to see so many kids. When I came in, their faces lit up and I signed a lot of things." He said Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen were the players that inspired his own generation. "Hopefully I can win titles and inspire these kids," he added. The teenager has said it is "nice to come home" and be back to "some sort of normality" despite his worldwide fame. "I can't do anything about it, my life has changed," he said. "I will just get on with it. This is what I do, I love playing darts". The Manchester United fan admitted he does not practise much "as I get bored on my own". "I think I have the ability to go to the venue, have an hour practising and then go on stage." The darts sensation celebrated his 17th birthday on Sunday with a trip to a restaurant. "I just chilled out and had a nice Chinese with my family," he said. "No-one can get me anything because I can get it myself." Littler said he is looking forward to learning to drive now that he has turned 17, so that his agent and father do not have to take him to tournaments. "It's going to be a big thing, it saves my agent and my dad driving me. "They can put their feet up on the dashboard rather than me doing it," he said. |

The BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award is presented at the annual BBC Sports Personality of the Year award ceremony. It is awarded to the sportsperson aged 17 or under as of 1 January of that year, who has made the most outstanding contribution to sport in that year. Nominees have to be British citizens or are residents who "play a significant amount of their sport in the UK" with their solo "core achievements" being undertaken in the UK.As of 2023, nominations are put forward by a judging panel which includes representatives from the BBC, Youth Sport Trust, a Blue Peter presenter, a young Blue Peter "guest" judge and sporting talent who then decide on a ten-person shortlist. The panel later reconvenes to choose the top three, and decides on the winner by secret ballot.
Sounds perfect fit to me. Didn’t win World Champs but inspired the younger generation. Why would he not be their number 1 choice. Don’t think you can be in both categories…not sure though. |
|
By:
Jessica Gadirova won young spoty and was also a nominee for the main award in 2022, so no excuse for just giving Luke young spoty. Although she was 18 the night of the award and Luke will still be only 17. So even if they come up with some daft rule that he's under 18 and not eligible to be shortlisted for the main award. Im almost certain all stakes would be returned after a few thousand emails to IBAS complaining he should of never been on the market if not eligible to win the award.
|
|
By:
Splitting his vote will surely push him out to double figs if that happens. Just think BBC’s dream result is Keely winning and Luke Young Spoty with French swimmer overseas winner. England footy team winners. That’s my Yankee
![]() Who else can be in Young SPOTY apart from Lukey ? Can’t think of anyone. |
|
By:
He's too big to get it i suspect, young spoty always given to an unknown kid you've hardly heard of, until they win it. as far as i know they've never given it to a global superstar, but you don't get many 17 year wonder kids do you.
dunno what this vote split your on about is, a panel decide the winner as stated in your post above. The public only vote on the main award. |

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/darts/68596519 Some interesting quotes from a long article i can't be arsed to C&P Littler's manager is Martin Foulds, whose ZXF Sports Management firm also looks after other top players including World Matchplay champion Nathan Aspinall. Foulds believes Littler's amazing ascent is unparalleled - and says interest in the teenager is non-stop. "It's just another level, completely alien to anything that has happened in the darting world," Foulds said. The 40-year-old estimates he receives "20 to 40 emails, phone calls, messages, minimum" about Littler every day from commercial or media organisations. "I probably spend 70% of my working day dealing with Luke-related enquiries - calls, messages, Zooms, Teams meetings, media requirements," Foulds added. Littler has even had to put on hold the driving lessons he was desperate to begin taking when he turned 17, so tough is it to find time in his schedule. In the space of a week, he's appeared on Comic Relief on BBC One, the Jonathan Ross Show on ITV, and Fantasy Football League with Matt Lucas on Sky. "It's clearly unprecedented," PDC chief executive Matt Porter told BBC Sport. "But it's been really encouraging how professionally and maturely he's dealt with the scenarios put in front of him. "He's taken to it like a duck to water. You feel like he's been there for a long time, he's composed, he's calm, he enjoys himself. "There are a lot of demands on his time, but there are a lot of benefits and rewards as well." He's had Premier League footballers asking him for photos, met Sir Alex Ferguson and other Manchester United heroes and received messages from David Beckham. He got to speak to United boss Erik ten Hag and played darts at the Red Devils' training ground with Harry Maguire and Christian Eriksen. Foulds says Littler has "two different personas". "You've got the off-screen, off-stage one - he's quite shy and humble, just wants to talk with his mates, play a game, spends a lot of time on his phone like most teenagers," Foulds said. "But when he gets on the stage it's like something switches - he's in his element. He loves the arenas, the more fans the better. He seems to thrive with bigger crowds." "The phrase people are using is 'generational talent' and I think that's quite appropriate," added PDC chief Porter. "He's clearly done more than the majority of youth talents have done - not just in darts but in any sport. "He's opened up some doors to a new audience for us - darts was on an upward curve anyway but he's accelerated that growth." |

This seems to be quite a coincidence but i seem to be finding an awful lot of bbc related content on Luke, think he's a lot more popular than people think.
i get the feeling there is going to be a few squeaky bums around the time of the short list announcement. |

If he’s in two categories people won’t necessarily vote him in main award if they think he will win Young Spoty. Plus Keely is an Olympic gold medalist in 800 meters not a pub game he didn’t win. Eating kebabs won’t sway the public that much.

By:
This made me laugh
In 1991, angler Bob Nudd received the most votes following a campaign in the Angling Times. However, the BBC deemed this to be against the rules and refused to acknowledge his votes. |
|
By:
So as we know there is no age stipulation for the main award, nothing is written on this anywhere. Probably coz once in a while generational talent appears at a very young age and the bbc don't want to be in a position where a rule would stop them from stopping a certain world talented superstar from being nominated for the main award. Thus upsetting the general public !!
Ian Black won the award in 1958 at the age of 17. So ive been back through every nominee until i got to 2010, funny enough. The same year as Phil came 2nd. Now down in 6th place with 50,000 votes was a certain 16 year old called Tom Daley, who also won Young SPOTY that year. Guess what at the age of 15, Tom Daley won young SPOTY and came 6th in the main award with 37,000 votes |

you actually don't realise the amount of luck the fav has had, i'd cash in coz even after all that luck she still won't win spoty coz there is a far bigger star and a hero the media love.
on one hand, we have the person who collected her medal, then jumped on a plane leaving all her pals to go on the p1ss abroad. then we have a kid, who is inspiring tens of thousands of other kids all around the UK, it does make me wonder if any of that will be shown in the documentary. |

Luke Littler's thrilling run to the final of the Paddy Power World Darts Championship propelled him to BBC Sports Personality of the Year favouritism in January.
However, Team GB's performance at the Paris Olympics is likely to have a defining impact on the SPOTY market and punters have already latched on to 800m star Keely Hodgkinson. Her odds have collapsed from 14-1 to 4-1 over the past couple of weeks and she tuned up for the Olympics with victory, and a new national record, in Saturday's London Diamond League meeting. Bet365 offer 8-15 about Great Britain claiming 16 or more gold medals in Paris, where the opening ceremony takes place on Friday. The firm go 5-6 that Team GB win over 62.5 medals at the Games and several Olympic hopefuls are prominent in the SPOTY betting behind Littler and Hodgkinson. Luke Littler 4-1 The teenager's PDC World Darts Championship heroics captured the imagination of the nation and Littler hit the front in the SPOTY market despite losing to Luke Humphries in the final at Alexandra Palace. May's Premier League final triumph over Humphries, which featured a nine-darter, kept The Nuke in the headlines although the lack of terrestrial darts coverage may dent his chances of winning the BBC award. Keely Hodgkinson 4-1 The plunge on Hodgkinson is understandable, especially after she became the sixth-fastest woman in history over 800m at the London Stadium on Saturday. A silver-medallist at the age of just 19 at the Tokyo Olympics, she has been in sparkling form this year and is around 1-3 to claim gold in Paris. It was all there in black and white. If you are trying to manipulate the vote with SM campaigns rather than just letting voters choose the winner then it’s a financial reward not sporting achievement. |
|
By:
Biggest problem is two fold - he may not get nommed (given the YP award instead)
Second problem is the nature of the vote - they are mostly women voting on SPOTY (a change that happened gradually over the years). Viewing figures were something like 2.9 million last year, so it's not exactly a national vote - it's a bunch of ladies, sitting and watching a TV show. How many of those will be remembering (let alone voting for) a tubby darts player who lost in his big final? A few % of them. How many will remember the coverage they've just been shown in the emotional golden girl winning after the years of struggles to get to the top. Most of them. |
