My hand has been revealed, he wins. Anyone I've spoken to not involved in betting thinks he wins, and there's actually a big new audience of darts mams (mums) who love him. I was very sceptical earlier in the year, but not now.
He's revolutionised his sport and likely doubled the audience (will be looking up figures) . Hardcore darts fans will vote as a big up for the sport. Expect a horsey style campaign
your're gonna have a very squeaky bum come the awards if you keep laying her stu, for one simple reason.
she won welsh spoty last year, so many welsh gamblers will expect her to progress to the main award after such a great games. She will get backed in no matter what, once a campaign starts she'll go very short.

I was originally getting on Luke after the euro's and Olympics to see where his price was at, its actually decent but i think there is too many doubts about him making the list. Raducanu won it last games year, will the bbc risk that again ? They are not scared of making tough controversial decisions, whether its them or the panel.
Would seem harsh to dump young spoty on him, that award is for upcoming kids you've hardly heard of and Luke has transformed darts and the adult world of darts. Which is his only positive imo to help him get on the list, the fact he's competing against adults at the highest levels of his sport.
Unfortunately that sport is not covered by the Illuminati and that is what the 17 year old is up against, the bbc do seem to like him though, following his progression.
With the bbc's track record of leaving massive names off the list over the years, its a total coin flip whether he gets on it imo. Keely's price will always be odds on regardless of him making the list coz she will get massive media coverage on the run imo, most likely a documentary at some point, too boost her profile as i think Luke is more known than she is tbh. She'll get the kitchen sink VT on the night as well no doubt, so i think you will still get some value on Luke even if you wait till the actual night or whether he makes the list or not.
conclusion is his price his great, you're just gambling he makes the list if you back him now. Its factored in by the looks of it, i think your'll still get 3+ if he makes the list.
Thats the 1st hurdle, getting on the list..the next one will be getting men to vote for him, if they do he wins easily. I just can't see enough women voting for him as right now most women are doing right by supporting other women. Joey Barton fall out still in effect no doubt, they was already at there height and he just pushed the agenda higher. last hurdle for luke is no personality whatsoever, he's terrible in interviews with one sentence answers followed by a deathly silence lol and looking 35 is also a big negative. Hardly reminds you of your young son, more like the one who's moved out that drinks and eats kebabs every weekend.
Good luck if backing him as of now, way to many negatives for me verses an Olympian

He has 0 of the classic (I think GBs term) 'moist vote' - unlike some other male winners in SPOTY
No women will be fancying him in any way - maybe to mother him, but he loses some of that even as he looks 36!

you can back luke at 6/1 who is not even guaranteed to make the list, then has big hurdles to overcome even if he does or you can back Emma at 66/1 who is guaranteed to make the list and has a whole country who will get behind her

Lynne Davies not winning it for Wales after winning Olympic Gold was bad enough, but still not winning it after what he went on to achieve on Superstars was down right criminal

They'll just ask the 6 people on the independent panel, and they'll say, yes he's the biggest sporting story in Britain this year, covering the most column inches, of course he's on the shortlist

Not being as clued up on the politics of the award as a few on here I've not understood this shortlist question stuff.
Why isn't it a simple case of, is he a star of his game, has he taken his game by storm, has he impacted outside of his sport, is there a unique aspect of his achievement...where's the debate, isn't these all the things that get you on the list...you know...excellence!!

He has a clearly better darts player this year (Humphries) who beat him in the world final - a straight nom of Littler is very odd given this fact.
Littler has had good impact for darts, but I think will get recognised by giving him Young sportsperson of the year.

So the panel is external to the bbc, invited to salford come november to have a good chin wag and tea and biscuits. Maybe a slap up meal even.
Of course you can say they'll be influenced by the bbc, but they are independent. They produce the candidates, be it 6 or 12

but and a very big but, darts not on bbc, they are well known for leaving stars off list year in year out. Kerr last year they may want an olympian to win this time coz there channel and radu won last time games was on young spoty is a very easy get out for them
i do think he makes the list but there is a ton of uncertainty

Does it matter that there is a player arguably better than him ATM, what he has achieved at his age especially in that very much gladiatorial arena that darts provides and to be able to hold your own at his age amid all that without being overawed especially when he appears to not be an overly demonstrative individual is simply incredible and then to be very nearly the best player in the world at it is astounding.

Players championship is a bit of a big deal in late November he could do with winning that one, on ITV4...at least it's terrestrial tv, so might jog a few memories when people start to see it being advertised.

Last year the panel made a very populist choice in chosing Broad, he'd done next to bugger all really. I'd make Luke odds on to be selected, and Cav around evens

In Olympic year, a chubby man child wins spoty by starring in a pub sport. A pub sport which auntie doesn't even have the rights to broadcast live, and the runner didn't win the most important title. I no longer see the prods going for it at all, the question is if they are comfortable risking him being listed for the main award.

Luke will have many, many chances to go on the main list and win the award..that will count against him. Its the only chance they will ever get legitimately to leave him off.
The BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year[1] award is presented at the annual BBC Sports Personality of the Year award ceremony. It is awarded to the sportsperson aged 17 or under as of 1 January of that year, who has made the most outstanding contribution to sport in that year.

Ian black won the main award as a 17 year but that was back in 1958, pretty sure its never happened since then. There is no minimum age mentioned anywhere about the main award but as they introduced young SPOTY with a max age limit it might be some unwritten rule not known by the public. Simply put is he old enough to go on the main list ? nobody actually knows !!

Both girls will smash him out the park with there VT's, dreaming as young girls about winning medals...tears, blood, sweat along the way. the men will love the 9 darters but will they vote or expect everyone else too, most won't bother to fill out the form. Lets be honest any bloke that has a partner, she will do all there paperwork and online crap coz the bloke can't be arsed. whereas every woman watching will go out of there way to fill out the form, they love it. Being part of something, men are just not the same !! and he needs there votes to stand any chance imo

its not like they would be fecking him over either, they would be giving him an award. the young version of it and tell him to come back next year with a bit more spunk in ya interviews

Its a decent gauge of popularity imo especially when the gap is humongous.
Probably better that relying on the huge Welsh vote because Glynn got 2nd in BB 20 years ago..

he's certainly not an ideal advert for sport in general, i actually love the lad but he's massively overweight for his age and does nothing to lower it. just eats and promotes junk food. in this pc driven world we live in now, is he the winner the bbc want to showcase to young aspiring kids
not for me, thats another negative to the already long list

tbh to this thread, i'm a massive Luke fan and hope he does make the list and win if the unknowns vote, he has the potential to win by miles. its just a coinflip whether he gets on or not and far to risky to have the 2k i was gonna put on him as Plan A, so i'll probably be kicking myself when he does and win lol.
my main play in this market now and will continue to be all the way is emma top 3 so good luck luke backers and to luke himself, he does deserve it for what hes achieved and done for the sport.
ive nothing further to say on this topic, all my energy is for emma

lol if luke does make the list i'd be happy backing him at say 2/1+ and prey men vote, that would still be massive value considering his pub popularity. and i would have the 2k on. so i will wait
