The games was so dire this year, there is a strong chance two girl para's make the list as a load of them did really well.

All the cricket, athletic, motor racing, dart fan talk is pretty bullsh1tty really. Nearly all sport fans don't just like one sport, they like many. Yes every sport has its die hard fans that will probably vote 100% but there is also a very large % of crossover sport fans. whether its cricket and motor sport, or darts and footy..whatever. Every person i know likes many many different sports. In those cases it really does come down to the VT on the night.
plus there will be thousands of neutral sport fans watching/voting whose sport is not listed like rugby, football etc

So to say the diehard fans of one sport decides this award really is b0llocks, they may make up a decent portion of the overall vote but in a tight contest the neutrals and crossovers of 2/3 of the sports shortlisted ultimately decides who will win

The VTs are important I'd agree. They can seem to swing whoever is watching - I recall the rugby guy who was a legend getting an awful VT and short interview - so he bombed in the voting.

I do think your girl will get a really good VT, the deaf back story and that shot of her emotional and teary eyed is a cracker but its all factored into her price.
With how short the VT's are she gets everything in quite powerfully and easily.

Take Littler, the lad whose big edge is being so young who doesn't look it lol has won 9 title to date, more than any other pro and broke endless records. His VT is anyones guess coz there is not going to be nowhere near enough time to translate everything he's achieved this year.
So the big question is, will they get it right to make it a wow moment or not.

Thats if it does eventually come down to a H2H battle

You'd think having loads of quarters and semis would ve a big advantage for Gb over Nz.  Apparently not

You Littler fans not watch Luke Humphries tonight?  I doubt it tbh as your darts knowledge ain't that great.

Watched the De Decker match and the first set of Humphries then turned over

No interest in watching a cyborg play a teletubbie

He's dull as ditchwater and has added nothing to the resurgence of the sport which is purely down to Littler..

BBC SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR AWARD
This award goes to the sportsperson whose sporting actions have most captured the UK public's imagination during 2024.

It really does amaze me how people still don't get the premise of the award, endless sports stars have been left off the list for what they have 'won' in that particular year.

As it happens Littler has won more titles this year than all the other 'older' pro's shattering endless records along the way. Its more the fact the age he has achieved this and the manor in which its been done. Going out of his way to encourage youngsters and promote the sport in a way even Taylor couldn't do.

You keep laying Clyde coz it appears your SPOTY knowledge ain't that great !!

For those clinging on to some dumb hope Littler will be left off the list and awarded young SPOTY, he has withdrawn from the youth championship and will not be defending his title. So he can concentrate on stuffing jealous old pro's like Gary Anderson !!

And still never been awarded to anyone while there is an existing different person who is world champion in their sport.

Littler could win SPOTY, but it would not be in line with any previous winners or (implicit) principles for making this award, so would be betting on a change in the award - not for me.

Can someone ask befair for a will "Littler make the SPOTY short list" market, all the Littler supporters could clean upCrazy

Good suggestion Borg! Interesting to see that market - though would likely have to be open for all selections?

Thats a better idea, they could just add everyone trading under 1000

Mansell, blimey that's a memory dig GB - he won it for winning didn't he? (will look)
By:
stu
When: 13 Oct 24 13:03
Rusedski's sport doesn't have a world champion, so that doesn't count directly.

A memory dig? He famously won for being a loser.  Just you don't have a memory :)

Didn't even bother
By:

When: 13 Oct 24 13:10
Ah, it was the Prost year - that's the closest yet then, fair research. Arguable whether the wording of 'world champion' directly fits, for that sport, but closest attempt fair play GB.
By:
stu
When: 13 Oct 24 13:12
Bear hadn't come up with it GB, for some reason so you beat him too Wink - maybe as above 'wording issue' - formula one champion yes, so close to world champion, though not exactly the same as it's use in most other sports where there is a world championship as a separate event...
By:
GeorgeBrush
When: 13 Oct 24 13:12
Damon Hill did the same as mansell
By:

Appears to be the one sport exception then, if accepted as a comparison yes. Driving. Who'd have thunk.
By:
stu
When: 13 Oct 24 13:18
Maybe though could still amend the rule very slightly - never ahead of a world champion who is also eligible for SPOTY?

Beat that mr research. Wink

Prost couldn't have won SPOTY basically...

I also suspect that every pound backed on tech bro ainslie, was just panicky covering of other greens, and nobody ever thought he'd win
