RATINGS for Sports Personality of the Year almost halved this year as millions turned off the BBC’s “boring” awards do.

Even at its peak, just 4.75million tuned in on Sunday night to see F1 hero Lewis Hamilton crowned as this year’s top prize winner — down from 8.6million for the 2019 show.

.

3.3 million I'm seeing for ly.

I think Frankie has a 2nd massive hurdle to overcome outside of no regional support.

So are we too presume a very large portion of the female audience will be voting for Earps, and some for KJT. Meaning Frankie and Rory will be relying heavily on the mens vote but Rory has northern Island as back up. This means Frankie's chances mostly lay with men race goers.
Now call be cynical but how many fans watch there sport for the love of it, most golf fans are loaded coz rich people don't gamble as much as poor people. You never ever see a bookie in rich suburbs. Anyway thats a side issue, most people who watch golf, athletics etc do it coz they love the sport.
Now how many men watch racing for the love of it lol not very many, nearly trying to win the shopping money back, and how many men are looking at the SPOTY market right now and have already given up on Frankie. Knowing Earps is such a big fav and woke this woke that, joey barton etc etc.
From a racing punters point of view, this race is over so whats the point of me voting. I don't see any big motivation to fill out the forms from his demographic myself.

The campaign if it even gets off the ground is only going to work with people involved in racing at a work level, who are in the sport for the love of it.

i mean the bookies could always throw some adverts in the shops they have left to vote frankie, bu the only people in there mind are the addicts on the FOBT's.

Too many negatives to overcome for me, its all gonna boil down to northern island v liverpool

Report armagnac December 13, 2023 10:59 AM GMT
Hewitt will barely touch the NI vote, everything still points towards Rory being huge value, given his proven track record and NI's and the decent vote count he got in 2014.

It's partly that imv, but it's partly simply down to technology and how we operate differently. Families don't tend to gather around the TV to regularly watch events any more. The royal Xmas speech is one of the few annual ones left. We tend to lead atomised lives, not wishing to get too deep lol. Most people under 40 would rather be scrolling through their phone or netflix than watch spoty. And the bbc is deliberately turning away the over 40s, courting the under 40 audience that are not interested in linear tv.

Still Rory is AWOL, he only give this season 7/10 from a personal point of view. Obviously last time he was nommed he won two majors and the ryder cup, maybe he feels this is a token effort and feels sympathy for Kerr. Whatever his reasons for staying quiet it continues to look like a snubb.
Report armagnac December 14, 2023 10:29 AM GMT
ah i think i have worked it out, last year Fitz was robbed of a place on the short list, uproar ensued across golf.
maybe Rory feels embarrassed about being handed a political place on the list, after all he's the self appointed voice of golf now. After being so vocal about the Liv tour, he would look hypocritical possibly by accepting being on the list after Fitz was completely ignored the year before.
It feels like i didn't do enough and don't deserve it...who cares !!

In June 2022, he won his first major championship at the U.S. Open, with a one-shot victory at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts – the same venue where he won the U.S. Amateur in 2013. Their reason to decline?

"It does not suit the demographic."

A source tells The Telegraph:

"The PGA Tour was willing to give away the highlights to the BBC for a potential programme that could have gone out every Monday night, or even just when it chose, such as for The Players Championship.
"It would not have had to pay any rights fees. This offer was made on multiple occasions, including in recent years. But the answer came back that it was not interested because it ‘does not suit the demographic’ the BBC is trying to reach.
"That is a stunning attitude, even if you simply look at this week and see that Rory McIlroy has a chance to go back to World No.1 and so many other UK players are teeing it up.
"The BBC would rather get down with the kids and instead put out stuff like the UFC."
Report Cider December 17, 2023 2:06 PM GMT
