In a break from tradition and embracing the current zeitgeist,this year’s FOTY will be decided by a People’s Vote from a binary shortlist.
Honourable mentions in dispatches for the following who just missed out ...squares,LOU MACARIS TARTAN B,Corbyguy,J.O.TOBIN,mach,Cider,five leaves left,lookinon and Libertine93.
After much soul searching this year’s nominations are ;

Affectionately known as “army” he’s been a staple diet (including a thread about his staple diet) for a number of years.Variously described as mad,lunatic,dirty ramper or genius at times he’s kept our forum going almost single handed.
Whilst it would be fair to say 2018 wasn’t his best year for picking winners,the volume of threads started,the number of points raised and the sheer tenacity of his arguments were a sight to behold.
Often combative,always with a great sense of humour and committed to the last it’s no exaggeration to call him a forum legend.If you ever went out for a quiet drink with army you’d likely end up on the sleeper train to Aberdeen dressed in a St Trinians costume clutching a blow up doll.
With the demise of Big Brother what better way to commerate it by rewarding its biggest fan with the title of FOTY 2018 ?

I thought long and hard before including “horse” on the shortlist given that he has already been a recipient of this prestigious award a couple of years ago.However his Pricewatch threads this year have been nothing short of sensational and the time devoted to churning these out needs to be recognised.
His combination of pithy comments and amazing attention to detail make him the forum’s MVP and a tremendous asset to us all.
So the choice is yours.Anyone wishing to vote please post below....voting closes in line with the SPOTY vote on Sunday.

My vote goes to army, nothing against horse,except I don't particularly like him   Tbf I don't particularly like army either, His hijacking of trains and trying to make them his own is particularly embarrassing. When you call him a retarded freak and he's been on the drink he gets all huffy, although i did chuckle when he told mach he was going to smash his face in, but i do like the way he backs no hopers that i'm trying to lay Army for FOTY |

Sorry, horse, I love you dearly, and it`s hurting me to do it, but I`m voting for army.
1) Quite frankly, a large part of my decision is purely for the devilment and mischief of it, looking forward to the mayhem army would bring to the role! 2) Nobody`s had a stellar year, nobody`s won it on results only, so other criteria are required, and army`s work rate is exceptional, albeit far less concise and informative than horse`s! While the `Pricewatch` threads are my favourite on here, I also enjoy arriving home to the three gazillion new posts that army has generated when he`s in full flow 3) So far, our list of winners is; 2014 (The one, the only, original and best!), me. 2015 bear 2016 horse and squares joint winners 2017 hemsby So, nobody`s won twice, and what can I say, but I`d like that to continue; at least until I win it again... 4) We all know the enthusiasm army has, and I`m guessing he would be more thrilled to win a first time than horse would be for his second victory. Such enthusiasm has led to the odd disagreement with fellow posters, (including with me), but he takes the abuse very well, always willing to forget about it and move on, most amicably. 5) horse is too good, worthy of winning any and every year, almost a ringer! As such, I`m sure most of us would have him top of any list of `Hall of Fame` or `Lifetime Award` candidates 6) When I started writing this post, the tally was 3-2 to horse, so this will level it up, make it more exciting! Nevertheless, current betting is; horse 1.25 army 5.0 and I always lay the shorties! |

I'd just like to post on record my thanks to everyone dm'ing me about my omission from the shortlist.
I agree with the general consensus that as it was a public vote my inclusion would have resulted in a runaway victory, and that's what hems was trying to avoid The major worry is army is now odds on and his shocking record of picking winners means smachhead is a cert for 2019 |

I can only reiterate what has been said about Horse, he's a true diamond
The time and effort he puts in deserves a prestigious award. Army has kept this forum going on his own some days and he's always passionate about his chosen bets. He should be in politics, never gives up. After careful consideration my vote goes to Army only because Horse has already held the title.Army deserves some recognition for all the time he puts in and deserves to end the year winning something.  |
