I thought it was very cool (too cool for school), more like an overseas artist arriving and doing interviews, gigs, etc.

The Dalton VT? It's not usually good to accentuate the visitor angle. Seems like he's well clear and perhaps trying to shift some support Scarlett's way. Although there's no real significance to runner up or third in this format.

Yes, the Dalton VT. Sort of carrying on the general feel in the show that's he's so superior he's like a visiting guest with a career already and all we have come up with by way of opposition are Scrappy Doo and Miss Piggy.

If they were worried about Ant winning I feel Dalton would be getting a lot more help, maybe going back to his roots. Recall James Arthur's infamous fake bedsit vt. I think the audience prefers to create a star not reward one. As you say though there is no worthy home competition.

Either they have no worries on that score, or they don't care because they work with whoever they like regardless of finishing position and those not wanted can be ditched pretty quietly pretty quickly.
