Shortlist will be 6 runners.

Three Lions to blare out across the arena too in a live performance, that will boost HKs votes.

Ronnie O Sullivan .. currently 60/1 on betfair

Ronnie no chance of being on shortlist

Menna Fitzpatrick could trade low tonight if she makes the shortlist (which she will probably do)

how to do you that Ronnie has no chance to be on the short list ?
is that a fact or are you merely stating your own opinion ? |
|
By:
Hard to say depends on how the BBC portray it.....young, attractive, down to earth blind woman who interviews well
|
|
By:
Re Ronnie.....not sure how he can make shortlist when he isn't world champion or world number one
|
|
By:
neither is harry Kane !!

Bardo. Gary Lineker won golden boot @ World CUp but didnt even make top 3 SPOTY.
So Harry for SPOTY @ 2/1 no ta. Id rather back Harry Maguire who made a greater contribution than Kane in Engklands World CU pcamapign. |

If anyone was to shoehorn a place it would be a woman. They can easily stick him in the moment category anyway along with Tyson, the netballers and the WC penalty shootout. Just noticed I gave you the shortlist for SMOTY over 2 months ago |

I stand by my original list for the main award. Seems almost certain to be Kane/Thomas/Hamilton/Asher-Smith/Yarnold +1
That last one is tricky. My original choice with 6 would've been Menna Fitzpatrick, but the young award plus the Rollason award going to para athletes it seems that she prolly won't be listed. Plus it's winter sports and they have quoted they aim to recognise a "breadth of sports" so with Lizzie Yarnold a cert and Ledecka nominated in the World Award, I think she's going to miss out. The final slot is difficult to call and one name I didn't include earlier was James Anderson. Clearly he deserves to be shortlisted more than Cook and if the market knows it might be saying it's him. Joshua is prolly out of contention due to Fury, so that also leaves Peaty and Georgia Hall. |

Where have we got the figure of "6" for the shorlist from? All I've read is that its a "reduced" shortlist.
Paralympian surely has to be on shortlist - Menna Fitzpatrick |

Pretty certain I've seen 6 named in press releases. If it's more than 6 it would mean Fury is added as it was before his fight, but seeing how he's already nominated for the moment award, didn't win and there is a black undefeated Birtish World Heavyweight champion, I think his inclusion would be unlikely.

Some reporter confirmed it as 6 last week.

No record of 6 anywhere on the internet as far as I can see?

Cider knows his stuff; if he`s saying it`s 6, then 6 is 1.01. Act accordingly, thank him later

Probably 8.....

Tricky one this year - the Wales and cycling vote should deliver over 200,000 votes for Thomas but most coverage I've read still plumps for Kane. He may win but he's nothing like Gazza or Owen who became major stars that lit up their respective tournaments (and crucially having an impact in the most important games). Gary Lineker is a lovely chap but '86 wasn't his breakthrough year and there wasn't the same feeling of national joy when he won the golden boot as we went out of that tournament outclassed (as we were in Russia). If Rooney hadn't done in his metatarsal I think he would have had a shot if he had got England over the line in Portugal 2004. The real star of 2018 was the team as a whole and wearer of the waistcoat.

Assume 6 on shortlist (3 women, 3 men presumably?)
Men: Harry Kane Lewis Hamilton Geraint Thomas Women: Dina-Asha Smith Lizzie Yarnold Menna Fitzpatrick Anybody with differing opinion? |

how do you know that AR?
|
|
By:
you might get an idea who the 6 are watching the bbc's red carpet feed. They've had presents for Thomas, Asher Smith, Yarnold and Southgate but not for Fury or Kane
|
|
By:
also the cycling audience has just has the tack cycling world championships finish now on BBC2 so I guess that audience will switch over to Spoty in 40 mins
|
|
By:
or an hour even ;-)
But presumably they can't crowbar Gareth Southgate in over Harry Kane? |
|
By:
Golden Boot winner in a World Cup against completely naff opposition and is available over 2/1? Amazing price ...no one is going to vote for a druggie cyclist or Hamilton who wins the 'best car' championship every year.
