I actually don't mind Judge unlike most on here.Just the thought of Mark Wright makes me fume......my least favourite contestant ever.
By:
He reached the final Bails which was way beyond where he should have .
By:
Judge my biggest green but he won't win....perceived best dancers will be final two...Danny v Louise
By:
But proves the biggest journey doesn't beat a better dancer...Hollins the exception?
By:
Best dancers such as Natalie Gumede and DVO didn't win.
By:
True but then there has to be the chemistry factor and engagement with audience too...its what Lou doesn't seem able to factor in
By:
Best dancer more than just technique but technique an important element
By:
Mince was woeful when it came to technique. He's all over the place in his iconic Charleston. Great dance though
By:
Didn't bet that year so can't remember if there was a Mincey journey...guess there had to be
By:
Yeah, a mix of best dancer, likeability & great chemistry in the partnership. The show has become more astute at guiding the audience to vote for its chosen one, though it did seem to fail last year in trying to derail Jay & Aliona.

Selling the dance is what is most important, and how it looks as an overall package.
Most viewers wouldn't know much about technique until it gets pointed out by the judges. |

iirc Mincey started off with some decent scores and then lulled a bit, not really a journey contestant in the way Goughie was.
He wasn't a duffer, but there were a couple of much better dances than him but for a variety reasons they were not the right fit for the core voters and Mince was pretty much the perfect fit. |
By:
Instinctively plenty know when they see a technically good performance...plenty of armchair experts...I think any winner has to be good enough technically to give the viewers permission to legitimately vote for them when they are their "favourites" on likeability grounds....its why the Ed's ultimately fall short.
By:
Perfect example...most would say Astaire is the better dancer technically but Garland is more than good enough...and it's her you can't take your eyes off

It's also what the judges tell the viewing audience and how they spin it out. I've seen lots of dances that simply don't merit the eulogizing or scores of the judges but if it's in the script to say it was brilliant and for them to pull out 9s & 10s they will, & no doubt that sways voters.

Louis was my favourite runner. I'm usually a bit nervous during a final as I'll typically keep some reds, but not that one! 1.1 at halfway iirc
Every year has different dynamic, there are so many variables. Matt Baker was a near perfect runner, but mercilessly killed. That year the prods had a strong runner to put their weight behind. Kara might have beaten Jay too with the same treatment. |

By:
Kara was the best dancer as defined by technique, chemistry, likeabilty etc imo. One of my bigger wins and I know I was almost a lone voice that year...bear will check
By:
I don't feel the same way about Danny as I did Louis. I don't feel he has the warmth from the public, more of a respect. A little more warmth for Louise perhaps. Ore can't be completely discounted as he's holding his own. Ore seems to have toned it down a touch since he got tanned and ended up in the dance off. Realised he wasn't as good or popular as he thought.
By:
Yes its an interesting year...Danny the better dancer but lacking the journey, connection etc....Louise the opposite....if she is seen as "good enough" she could beat him.
By:
.....if Ore wins fair play I will have got a betting kicking and he will have pulled off the biggest comeback since Lazarus

Interesting Karen said Ed is looking tired or Katya is upping the choreo.
Not ideal for two dances. |
