I've had a change of heart over this, and after originally being against I'm now on board.
My initial thoughts were that it was a poorer version of "What If" from a couple of years ago. However this year looks to be shaping up as quite a competitive event, despite the market indicating a possible 2 horse race, and perhaps Russia's voting strength can prove crucial.
The live performance yesterday showed that she's an excellent singer, and she's also very telegenic. After weighing up the pros and cons of the political situation,it just seems a correct call to have this onside at 40.

Yes, yes, yes. Consider me well and truly on board. This is one of the very best songs in the competition, possibly the very best Russia has ever sent to Eurovision. It's quite likely to win Semi-Final 1 and therefore a very dangerous red. It's a vastly superior song to "What If", which scored from almost all countries in the competition. IF it's a close fight at the top left of the scoreboard then Russia's solid voting power could clinch it for them. I think this should be about third favourite actually. Looking forward to seeing the staging. Not sure what they'll come up with, but they'll need to have Polina wearing white, which already seems to have been decided.

I’ve nothing against diva power ballads but I don’t get this song at all. I have it green because when my view goes against almost everybody else it’s best to acknowledge that.
Politics is an unknown factor and may cancel – less votes from the west, more from the eastern diaspora. But it has a bigger problem…
Answer this - if there's something different or special in the year, eg Lena/Loreen/Conchita, can something so uncommercial and traditional as Polina win? I'd say Sweden, Italy, Australia, Finland, Norway are all different or special.

I'd say Sweden, Italy, Australia, Finland, Norway are all different or special. Conchita was the only one that stood out. You've just listed 5 countries which could spread such a vote out leaving Russia on the rail to win. Would be gobsmacked if this or Italy didn't win.

Vote "stealing/sharing" allowing someone else to slip through is often discussed in betting. I posed that question on the first Russia thread. But I'm not sure it happens. People just vote for who they want, and I think about 3 of those will be ahead of Russia.

When I played it first months ago, I was like this is the one all the way through, and then the change in the song came, and that was enough for me to say no.

The majority of europeans are nationalistic, fascist and morally depraved. That is why they will not vote for Russia; and that is why they voted for that cacophony from last year.
Also , note that the Austrians have put measures in place to drown the sounds of boos - when Russia will perform ! Enough said..

Italy deserved to win. Millions more people voted them as winners as they hacked up the public vote only to be scuppered by a group of juries who pulled their knickers down to some flashy visuals. Jury voting should be skewed more to how good the song was to stop countries who smash the PV not winning.
