Of all the winners over the years, which songs do YOU know all the words to? Which song is played on the radio far, far more than all the other songs combined? Which household doesn`t have it on at least one compilation CD? Most non-ESC fans would hardly recognise Fairytale, Euphoria, or any of the other recent winners. EVERYBODY knowa, and loves, one particular song, even thirty-plus years on, meaning there is a factually correct answer to the original question. Anyone who has answered with anything other than `Waterloo` is, demonstrably, wrong!

And, less than two minutes after I post that reply, I notice that `Mamma Mia` is starting on ITV2 in a few minutes. How many films do you think will be dedicated to the music of Loreen or Rybak in thirty years time?

Indeed it is, fll. However if the OP had asked `which is your favourite? we can be subjective. The `best`, though, has to be `measurable` in some way, and I suggest that the longevity and universal appeal shown by Waterloo makes that, quantifiably, the `best`. I suspect many replies on here are influenced by how green Fairytale and Euphoria were for the posters.
On the other hand, my failure to do more than break even on those two songs, (as well as last nights winner) may be influencing my subjectivity! |

Regarding ESC, I learnt my limitations years ago. I am hopeless at picking the winner, so I just try to trade the price movements in the months before the final. Spending untold hours ploughing through, for example, the qualifiers for the Slovakian song contest, is all far too much hard work for me. Particularly as I don`t feel it would help me seperate out my own subjectivity. I wouldn`t have backed Denmark, even at the 4/1?, 5/1? that was available. And, even if you had got those prices, for how many of us would that have been our only bet? By the time you back one? two? three? others, you have diluted the 5/1 down to evens or something. Far easier to trade your way to green all over. And then, as I have done in the last few years, proceed to blow the lot by laying, down to level, usually at odds-on, the eventual winner! |

Denmark was available at 20/1 after Emellie had performed in her semi final in Denmark. It didn't last long but if you are able to get on then it well worth following the national finals closely.
Also Lena was 14/1 for well over a week after she'd been picked. |

Is My Family a better comedy than say 2012, because probably 10x more people watched it? I'd strongly argue no. |

Denmark was available at 20/1 after Emellie had performed in her semi final in Denmark Do you mean `semi-final` as in qualifying for the Danish final? Or qualifying for last night`s final? If the former, well, hats off to your dedication and musical perception! We have, what, 45? countries, each with 10? songs, so 450-odd songs to choose from. I freely admit my own limitations still wouldn`t have me backing that song, even at 20/1,`at such an early stage. Even if you mean she was 20/1 after winning the Danish final, I am not sure I would have backed it. I still don`t see such a big difference between it and, say, Ireland. Both vaguely `dance/pop` numbers, and Ireland also had the same `drums thing` going on. What makes one garner 200+ points, while the other one comes last, is beyond me. Surely not just the penny-whistle? I really don`t see the recent winners being remembered in 30 years time, let alone be in virtually every household in the country on CD. Come on , boys, hands up! Which of you don`t have Waterloo on record or CD lurking somewhere in your collection? Anyway, ESC is over for another year, roll-on what has consistently been my most profitable RTV programme, BB! It was 20/1 after it won it's semi final in Denmark on 26th Jan. I backed it but was restricted to £2.50
 It was clearly a very catchy and immediate song and very well performed. Though I did feel she looked slightly psychotic at times. If I'd been able to get £250 on I would have snapped it up. As for Waterloo. I put my hand up. I don't have a copy of it. I do like the song though and it would be in my top 3, but behind Lena |

Well, genuinely, fair play to you for spotting the potential so early. Just confirms how useless I am at ESC.
As for not owning a copy of Waterloo, even on some old 70`s compilation, well, I`m surprised, but fair enough. |
