very true Lats. pockets are too big but they mean quicker frames and one sided matches all for more ad breaks.

Nobody wants to see one-sided matches, surely?  (unless they're balls deep on the train)  I just don't see how it helps attract people to the game.

When Jack was in in the 11th frame just I had a fiver on him in the outrights
It feels like the WORST fiver I've ever spent. And I've paid for a pint of skol in the past

Yeah, I gathered.  My remarks were just generic.  I genuinely don't see how these tables are good for the greater appeal of the game.

Absolutely no good for the game. Quick frames, shoot-out tournys and changing the UK champs to best of 11s illustrate what the climate seems to be now.

Could do with Gary beating Selby for my outrights but that is a killer loss in that frame.

Repeatedly bleating on about record number of tons and ever increasing standards is how they market the game for tv, sponsors and the casuals they want to attract. I too don't believe p!ssing off a large section of their core base is the way to go but i can't see them stopping anytime soon tbh

Surely even casuals don't want to see non-events, do they? (I mean, I know that's the staple of what Eurosport chooses to serve up) But, surely the appeal of live sport is the drama-filled tight ones?

Of course not mate, but i don't think they'd be putting the one sided affairs down to conditions tbh. In my experience the casuals - by which i mean guys who watch 1-2 tournaments a year and believe themselves knowledgeable about the sport - lap up most of what they're told by Davis and Parrott on the bbc and I've banged my head off a few keyboards arguing with them over the years!

Big part of the problem for me is the snooker media, or lack of it as it were. When's the last time you saw any snooker reporter tackle the issues that regularly crop up here? For me it's never, zip, nada. The only guy i see covering a broad range of topics is Phil Haigh and fair play to him for it, but still i never see him going near stuff like table conditions. It's like an omerta exists on the topic. I remember ronnie raising it at the masters 3-4 years back aaannnddd.....tumbleweed!!

I do think it's difficult for someone close to the game (whatever game, and not just sport - any industry) to highlight its deficiencies, while at the same time expecting to retain access.  You see it all the time.  People getting taken off media invite lists (the White House became quite big on this under a certain orange president), or managers refusing to talk to certain journos because they've written something they didn't like....  That's not to say it's right, but everybody's got mouths to feed, mortgages to pay....  You can kind of understand why it's the way it is.

All aboard the gravy train, ding ding!

Of course, spot on. That's how the establishment works and one thing Hearn was good at was fostering loyalty. Still, you always expect to the nd the odd maverick or outsider who refuses to toe the line ( or spits in the soup as the French would say) but i don't know who that is in snooker. As regards players, ronnie does raise issues but in such a scattergun way, it's too easy to dismiss everything he says. Willo, as i said earlier, does pipe up on twitter from time to time but for every willo, you'll have a Bingham or Murphy popping up to assure you that, far from being buckets, the pockets are actually tighter than they ever were. Pair of gaslighting fcks those two in particularAngry

If Ronnie really wanted to force change, he needs to start attending the player meetings, because at the moment, that is the main stick Hearn/Dawson have to beat him with.

Thing i find about ronnie is 90% of what he says is either mad ramblings or low level trolling and 10% of it is right on the mark analysis but just gets lost in all the murk created by his rambling. But players by their nature love to moan don't they, but actually doing anything proactive about it? No chance. I remember murphy giving out a few years ago when he was players rep and turned up for a meeting on the eve of the world championships to find he was the only player there!

I'd imagine those bbc gigs are nice little earners for the lads and you want to lay a marker down for post playing career, murphy half way there already I'd say

Selby seems to always play pants for a sustained period, and then suddenly turn an 'on switch' on....

dont see why selby should be around 5.8 to win, and higgins near 9, id have both evens in qfinal

gjohn - I don't think co-incidence that both Trump and Murphy did comm gigs, before playing badly and getting knocked out.

Mad IMO, when it is a world championship.

Do you mean Perry stu, i didn't hear trump on comms at any point? I did hear shon say it was unfair criticism as ronnie does it too and nobody says anything, but I'm not even sure ronnie is on eurosport this time and, even if he is, I'm going to make an allowance for a 7 times champion over a guy who hasn't won since 2005
