Trump judders to a halt.
|

By:
Not the first time Judd has capitulated like that. Why he goes around with that hangdog expression all the time, like he's carrying burden of the world on his shoulders, I've no idea. Just don't get him and never have. Maybe he really didn't want to play his pal in the next round

To me, he just looks like he did before he got his head together and went on that spell of playing killer stuff. I honestly don't think he knows in his own mind what shot to play a lot of the time. He just looks like his brain is frazzled. That shot he played to let LTT in for the first chance in that final frame was dreadful. And every now and again he has a bash at one, and the one thing (the only thing!) that will stop balls dropping on these tables is pace.

|
By:
Yeah exactly mate, frazzled is the perfect description of him. Other thing i would add is that, Judd being Judd, he remains the only top player afaik who insists on doing things his own way, no coaches, shrinks or anyone outside his tight inner circle allowed. Unless there have been changes I'm not aware of. I mean, even Ronnie has gone back to sightright this year. I remember them talking about judds set up when he made the breakthrough, how perfect it was for him with his brother as his right hand man, but it all smacks a little of something he finds comfortable rather than something that pushes or challenges him i think. Maybe he's afraid a coach would instantly start to mess with his cue action and he doesn't want to change. I dunno really, just spitballing here tbh

Reminds me of Mcilroy, exquisite player when things are going well but totally unreliable if it gets to Hey, lads, Hey. At least Judd gives an interview when he gets beat !

I think Trump tries to play a more all-round game these days, and has done for a while. He refuses more 50-50 long balls than he used to, and he has developed a useful safety game. But, as a result, I think he becomes unsure of himself regarding shot-selection, particularly when he is kept under pressure or he isn't in good touch. He also tends to miss more 'recovery' pots to keep a break going - and these were a speciality of his, admittedly when his cueball control wasn't as tight as it subsequently became. I felt he needed to play to a decent standard to beat McGill here, and he simply missed too many easy balls when in.
But, even allowing for Trump's poor performance - it was still a good solid win for Licence - and hopefully he can back it up against Lisowski next up. |

It's funny, when he got knocked out of the WST by Jimmy, he was looking forward to the time off. After today's defeat he was moaning that he felt rusty, having missed out on the Tour Championship
![]() I know others think he was just saying it, but I do think at the time, he meant it, when he said he'd achieved all he wanted to in the game. His game has undoubtedly dipped since he said it, whether subconsciously or not. You might be right, John, he might just need a fresh set of eyes to offer some guidance. |

McIlroy is an interesting comparison, same age and similar scale of achievement broadly speaking. Just seems like they can both get to the top through phenomenal levels of talent, but maintaining it is the challenge, being top dog doesn't seem to sit comfortably with them. They're no Tiger/Davis/Hendry etc
I think he does come out with some odd stuff from time to time lats, sometimes contradicting himself. Thing is, i don't care who you are in any sport, the idea you can do it all on your own without any help, is ridiculous and self defeating, but I think Judd is far too stubborn and single minded to ever admit that and change things. Maybe he'll relax with age and start achieving some consistency of high level, but I'm still thinking 3 world titles would be a reasonable haul for him, if he even gets that! |

got a funny feeling day may make a match of this tonight
|
|
By:
Judd may have a bit of the John Parrott syndrome - he's basically talked about how once he'd achieved certain things he could never get that focus back again in his game...

He's been shocking since 3-1

late nights commentating catching up with him id say

By:
If i was a murphy backer and you offered me this session to finish 4-5 right now, i think I'd take it and run
|
|
By:
Bang on, mate. Mobile phone little more than a convenient excuse there, IMHO
|
|
By:
Bad as Shaun's been in that mini-session, there were a few worrying signs in that frame about how Si might handle things if the winning line comes in sight....
|
|
By:
Abso****lutely mate. Have little doubt Si will begin to twitch like mad the closer he gets to the jamstick. Some of his shot selections fair to say can be a little out there at times!
|
|
By:
Murphy reverted back to his old self, looks beaten already even if he scrapes through that match this doing commentary stuff as well as playing is ridiculous, just not possible.
|
|
By:
Wonder what price Wilson will be to beat Higgins, could be a drubbing i can see Wilson setting a record of centurys he's the only player that goes out to get them,if he gets in the final i think it's a definite..

Perry will be very happy to take that 12th frame, was looking nervy and 7-5 would have been squeaky bum time. 8-4 it is though !

By:
Only just tuned in here.
Makes me LOL that this match was still hanging about on the BFLV schedule yesterday, but has disappeared today ![]() |
