Baz won't give as many chances as Jack did, that's for sure. Baz the more reliable, but Zhao has that ability to just blow people away, IF they let him.

first time i have heard him speak, what a nice lad
tough one to call this one. coin flip of a match. hoping one of them forges ahead early so can get a decent trade on the other for a comeback.
I remember Luca's one and only ranking final to date, where he played The Governess (China Championship 2017). He ended up winning very comfortably on the scoreboard, but it was an absolute $hit show of a match. Some of the nerviest snooker I can ever recall. Just checked, and he won 10-5, but only made 2 breaks over 50 in 15 frames played!
As for Zhao, he's been scoring really well all season, but he's never looked like he's had it in him to go all the way in events before - there's nothing in the locker if the potting's not firing. In fact, some of his results this season have been utterly dreadful (losses to Aaron Hill, Paul Deaville - a 17 year old playing the first professional tournament of his career - and Peifan Lei). It's hard to see where the improvement has come from. I do think both Jack and Baz fell into the trap of trying to beat him at his own game, and it wouldn't surprise me completely if Luca did the same.
Add in that this is pretty much an alien environment (a ranking final) for both, and anything could happen (though granted, Zhao does seem to have this innate ability to just shrug things off).

He's a great potter, Pandora. His scoring has been phenomenal this week. That is not in question. If you are trying to tell me he has a tremendous all-round game, however, I am going to tell you that you are wrong. If you leave him chances, on this week's form, he will take them. The answer, therefore, is to not leave him chances. Don't take on risky pots. Put him in trouble. That is your best chance of countering his scoring.
well i just love watching him play, its like poetry in motion, definitely reminds me of ronnie in his teenage years
He's pretty much played no-miss snooker for 11 of the 12 frames from 2-1 down v Jack, so I completely get that. It won't always work out that way, however.
Agree with Lats - It's great to watch bit it's difficult to win 7 matches on the trot (i.e. win a tournament) playing one-dimensional "no-miss" snooker - If you don't believe me, ask Judd Trump. Trump has won roughly the same number of tournaments (including the World Champs) in the few years since he (finally grew up and) changed his approach, as he won in the preceding 15 years of playing one-dimensional "naughty snooker".
Zhao is a proper talent when it comes to potting balls and can blow absolutely anybody away - but he's also capable of getting slaughtered on a non-going day and capable of missing by a foot when trying to get out of a snooker even when he is on a going day!

If you want a list of under-achievers in the game (relative to their ability and incredible natural talent) just look for the one-dimensional (try for the pot every-time) players: The young Jimmy White and Trump probably the most high profile on the list - but Brecel, Lisowski and Zhao all probably fall into the same category unless they mature at some stage.
Add Theppy to the list, too, TM, though of course he IS a ranking event winner! 
Theppy is a good shout - they'll all have "a day in the sun" at some point - but I'm not having the Shoot-out as ranking Lats!

Harsh for Luca - loses this final and in doing so, Zhao also nicks his place at the Ally Pally from him.
so pleased for Zhao to fulfil his potential, I remember some match he was involved in around 5 yrs ago and I recall me saying to my m8 that this kid was the future of snooker as he is such a great talent, I just want lisowski to make the break through now as jack is no less talented than Zhao in my opinion.
Watched him blow a 3-0 lead against Aaron Hill only a few weeks ago and simply cannot fathom how that same player could have gone on to do what he did this week. It's simply incredible. Fair play to him anyway, sport could do with one or two more like him.

I actually backed him for this and the World Championship after he beat Higgins. As per my earlier comments on this thread having seen him against Lines I thought that money was well and truly down the pan. Ye of little faith. The Management was spot on. Bet Fred who were the longest when I placed my bet on the World Championship are now the shortest at 20/1 so perhaps they took a few bets at the big price?

And he was out-safetied by 17-year old Paul Deaville, in his first ever pro-tournament, the following week. I'm struggling to fathom it, too, John! Maybe it's the big stage that has been the making of him? I certainly can't recall too many times when he's been on the main TV table, and CueTracker's notes about TV matches are sufficiently sporadic as to render them non-trustworthy.
Anyway, impossible to knock his final performance. Very well done to the lad and to everyone who believed.
This just emphasises the luck attached to gambling. There are probably several who saw what I saw against Higgins many years ago. By now they have probably given up on him. Had I not seen the Higgins, and instead first watched the Lines match there is no way I would have bothered.
I remember when Davis came back from china, after been beaten by Xintong, and talking about this "future world champion" so I kept an eye on him ever since. One thing always struck me, he was always favourite when he played in the juniors, world u/18, u/21 amateur etc, and always found a way of getting beat, can't even recall him making a final. Wasn't just that he'd no safety game, not many kids have, but there seemed to be at least one stupidly bonkers shot every frame, crazy low percentage stuff. And the few times I'd seen him lately, he wasn't giving me much encouragement he'd moved on significantly. So, like lats, I'm just stumped by what happened last week. The discipline and composure more than the potting, the latter wasn't in doubt.

Started watching Zhao about 5 years ago. Knew he was this great potter and very entertaining. He was always on the outside tables with just about 3/4 people watching.
He often failed to get over the line, and seemed more intent on his phone than getting the result. Glad to see his talent shine through at the highest level, and hope he doesn't think he's now a bigtime charlie.
