I remember Luca's one and only ranking final to date, where he played The Governess (China Championship 2017). He ended up winning very comfortably on the scoreboard, but it was an absolute $hit show of a match. Some of the nerviest snooker I can ever recall. Just checked, and he won 10-5, but only made 2 breaks over 50 in 15 frames played!
 As for Zhao, he's been scoring really well all season, but he's never looked like he's had it in him to go all the way in events before - there's nothing in the locker if the potting's not firing. In fact, some of his results this season have been utterly dreadful (losses to Aaron Hill, Paul Deaville - a 17 year old playing the first professional tournament of his career - and Peifan Lei). It's hard to see where the improvement has come from. I do think both Jack and Baz fell into the trap of trying to beat him at his own game, and it wouldn't surprise me completely if Luca did the same. Add in that this is pretty much an alien environment (a ranking final) for both, and anything could happen (though granted, Zhao does seem to have this innate ability to just shrug things off). |
