Whats the point of another top 16 tournament? Its always going to be a pale shadow of the masters. And if this is a ranking event, which i believe it is, it makes a mockery of all the times hearn goes on about fairness and giving everybody an equal shot. Its a mess of a tour and they'll never get it right

Hearn too busy turning snooker into darts to care about any of that!

Everyone had the chance to qualify I believe, as it is the top 16 players from money won since the start of the season, unless of course the Masters Money count's then the top 16 had a would have had a slight advantage.

In theory it is a stronger field than the Masters.

for people who want snooker every single week, with fast paced "entertainment", high breaks and loads of centuries.. Hearn is perfect. but if you want interesting frames with 4 snookers needed comebacks and sublime accuracy to successfully pot everything, Hearn has destroyed your game.

Ah....i was wondering how the feck Anthony Hamilton had got himself into a top 16 tournament!

Shows you how much difference the rancid shoot out can make. McGill not only leapfrogged over Williams into the top 16 on the back of winning it, he also earned a place in this event and the opportunity to widen the gap before the world champs.

I'm no fan of the shootout (in its present format) as a ranking event but mcgill is a top 16 player all day long with me

McGill's a funny one for me, he seems to have the right temperament and most of the shots to go with it, but if you look closer, what really has he done apart from a decent run at the World Champs and winning a minor ranking event which most of the top players ducked? Not all that much I would say, though he's pretty young by todays standards so best may well be to come. I prefer him to Wilson anyway.

I don't judge young players by what they've won, I use other metrics which I find to be particularly reliable

based on these mcgill has been screaming off the page with respect to his age and his ranking for the last couple of years so his recent climb up the rankings and tournaments is absolutely no surprise to me

It looks like everyone had the same chance of qualifying for this event as all started season on 0, and Masters did not count towards points.

Thanks trebor. I guess between this and the other 32 man event it's a calculated ploy to make sure players play as many tournaments as possible.

Looking at that list reminds me just how bad Robertson has been this season, wasn't far off missing out on this event. Hawkins is the bet of the week tomorrow i reckon, might even take him to give up a frame though at evens probably no need to be so greedy!

Gentleman,

I have just come over all depressed after reading your comment about Hawkins.

My 2 for the final is Robbo and of course Ding Grin both available at 14s. Yes I know probably the 2 worst players this season but I cannot believe those 2 are 14s in a field that all have real questions to answer.
Of course I myself could not be in worse form for picking winners but who is these days?
Table certainly isn't playing tight so really a pin job should be the call.

Anyway, this tournament is better than most.

Glad to see there is a realisation that Hearn and Davis are not the answer to snookers problems. In fact I think they are snookers biggest problem and have stated that from this beginning and also when they have tried to take the game over back in the 70s and 80s.
Stack it high and sell it cheap is what barrow boys do and what you are seeing regards quality is exactly that.

I have little doubt that their reign will come to an end its just a question of when the breakaway tour is born.

Snooker should be a quality game, stray from that and it won't be long before its long suffering fan base will have had their fill.
12 tables in a long shed is the last thing the game and the players need.

Moonan, given my tipping record here, i'd have thought my championing of hawkins would have brightened a robbo backers day no end Excited

Seriously though..the more snooker i watch, the less i feel i know, but i still know that hawkins will probably make short work of robbo this evening. Robertson will have to start playing better at some stage but see no reason why that should be this week and he's up against the most consistent player these past couple of months. It all spells doom.

I appreciate that you're beyond help when it comes to Ding, a helpless faith i actually find quite touching, but dearie me, then you go compound it by adding the second greatest under achiever in the game to your list!! Now Trump i could understand....he'll go for his shots at least.

My advice is to grab a few quid on hawkins while it's going so you'll have a bit more to fritter away on Ding next month  Cool
