Prohibit the use of all bridge-style implements: the rest, the spider etc, along with any type of cue extension.
Such a ruling would open up different areas of the table in which one could leave the cueball to hinder an opponent and also reward superior positional skills. Ambidextrous players would enjoy the tremendous advantage they fully deserve. Yes, it would disadvantage shorter players, but no game's interests are served well by pandering to its lowest common denominators.
I could see this working if taller players were handicapped by having to play with shorter cues. You would obviously have to prohibit the wearing of platform shoes, or the whole idea would just look ridiculous

Might I remind you all that such implements have not always been present on the billiard table. Historically, they're a relatively new addition.
And handicapping taller players in any way would be a dreadfully regressive step; the game needs to applaud its more athletic followers, not discourage them.

I guess it had to happen sooner or later, I disagree with Pokermonster about pool/snooker - given the 3 strikes and your out rule, a player could be placed in an impossible position entirely by chance that could cost him the game (ie the only route through to the object ball is in a straight line and the player has no earthly chance of hitting it) - interesting point tho, Peter Crouch is in full agreement

Apparently, World Snooker are going to trial the prohibition of bridges and cue-extensions at next year's U.K. Championships, along with slightly bigger pockets.

Haha, yeah could even it up a bit for the shorter players though with the players over say 5"11, havining to wear wizards cosumes with massive sleaves also could make the very top seeds ware clown costumes with large shoes, sneak up on opponents on crucial shots with a car horn thingy. Would be brilliant. Sounds far fetched but you never know with big baz and his box of tricks.
