Graham Gibbons was questioned by police at Wolverhampton racecourse shortly after winning two races.

Mr Gibbons lives in Wetwang, between York and Bridlington, and has ridden for several North Yorkshire trainers in the past, including Middleham-based Karl Burke and Mick Easterby, from Sheriff Hutton.

He was wanted on warrant after failing to attend Scarborough Magistrates Court in connection with an alleged drunken incident in Castlegate, Norton,  earlier this month


He turned up at the race meeting after his name was included in the racecards published in the morning papers and was arrested.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: "We have arrested a 31-year-old man on behalf of North Yorkshire Police."

Kate Hills, communications director for Wolverhampton's owner ARC, confirmed police had attended the course.

She said: "I can confirm the police attended Wolverhampton and asked to speak to Graham Gibbons.

"We understand it is not related to racing."

The father-of-two was banned from driving for four years in 2011 after being convicted of drink-driving for a third TIME North Yorkshire Police confirmed a 31-year-old man wanted for failure to attend court on a charge of being drunk and disorderly on April 8 had been arrested on their behalf and was in custody while enquiries continued.
