Watched Cheltenham from home on New Years day and enjoyed the racing. Started with Habbie Simpson a place only followed by a poor run from Karabak. Managed to lay off Buffalo Bob and Character Building so a break even race followed by a small profit on Hells Bay place only and win on Medermit that I laid off at the last. Hey Big Spender ran no race at all in the big handicap but I nearly hit the jackpot in the last with 10.5 Junior but in the end had to be satisfied with laying off for aprofit. Ended with a small win on Glitzy D'Ocala at Exeter owned by Daphne Du Pre, an old friend of mine and a very lucky owner.

I was wrong about Nick Williams. His 2 ran well yesterday after a quiet spell for the yard. Jonjo and Victor Dartnell are the two who must have big concerns about their form at the moment. Menorah was impressive but I doubt if that would be good enough for an average Champion Hurdle. Tataniano very disappointing.

The last day of the meeting starts with 2 mile chases with few runners as usual. I have backed Kilmurry on the back of his course win but don't expect him to be the best of this lot later in the season. Tataniano is in my ten to follow but 5/4 is very short today. Don;'t have astrong fancy in the Greatwood-may be General Miller can go close. Riptide is a massive price in the 2.55.
Little Josh was not even in the 10 to follow list of 500 which saya a lot about his improvement. He paid a big compliment to Weird Al. Mad Max didn't quite stay 2.5 miles at that level.

I enjoyed watching the racing yesterday and for once, didn't regret being at home with rain falling all day on course. Cue Card was a revelation to me in that he has so much basic speed. I thought he might need further at that level but he is far superior to the other novices seen so far. Only a high class flat horse that jumps as well as he does can threaten him now. I only backed Lacdoudal a place but really enjoyed watching him skim round the tight bends and jump like a top class event horse. He topped it off by out battling Garde Champetre up the hill. I followed the gamble on Dave's Dream and he was very impressive. The Novice chase produced more negatives than positives for me. For sure, Time For Rupert is a very good horse, but Mr Thriller was well in contention when falling and ...
