The Open Meeting

13 Nov 10 08:56
I enjoyed watching the racing yesterday and for once, didn't regret being at home with rain falling all day on course. Cue Card was a revelation to me in that he has so much basic speed. I thought he might need further at that level but he is far superior to the other novices seen so far. Only a high class flat horse that jumps as well as he does can threaten him now. I only backed Lacdoudal a place but really enjoyed watching him skim round the tight bends and jump like a top class event horse. He topped it off by out battling Garde Champetre up the hill. I followed the gamble on Dave's Dream and he was very impressive. The Novice chase produced more negatives than positives for me. For sure, Time For Rupert is a very good horse, but Mr Thriller was well in contention when falling and Reve de Sivola ran no sort of race. I fear that Nick Williams's horses are right out of form at the moment.

On to today and I fancy Palawi to run well in the first, Ogee in the staying chase and both of Henderson's in the Paddy Power. The 3.40 is impossible. I marked off 6 before getting to the end of the card. A race to watch and learn from.

Friday 12

12 Nov 10 10:58
Great to see a good card at Cheltenham but sad to see the best race starting at 4.05 when it might be getting dark. They used to run the 3 mile novice chase on the Friday and we nearly won it with Lucky Bay in 2002. We will find out today if Cue Card is the real deal as he has some stiff opposition. The rest of today looks very poor quality racing so no distractions from Cheltenham.
